Every breeder is aiming for bigger litters. Does having a small litter have any advantages, at least to the puppies produced ?

usually the puppies are bigger and grow faster from what I seen but I am no expert. I don't think there is true benefit to it except you would move the dogs faster ;) if I would breed I would not want to have bigger litter than 4 max 6.

8 makes a litter,
Of course less is better for the pups and mom, more to go around, but is less better for the breed?
Most of my litters over the years have been more, 10 - 12 .
I always wonder about the small litters, less than six.
Is it the breeder, or the breeding stock?
There is no reason why a healthy bitch can't have a proper litter, unless the breeding was not correct.
And add to the debate the practice of culling large litters.
Is this a good thing, or do some think it is some sort of taboo?
Is money a factor? Of course it is.
I prefer a litter that goes well, no problems to the bitch. Average, without fan fare. Healthy and strong.
The numbers aren't that important but I want strong vibrant puppies from healthy parents.

For me 6-8 healthy, strong pups is ideal. The number of puppies in the litter depends on many factors - day of mating, age of parents, lines, etc.

Do the pups grow to be oversized? Are they more likely to have bad hips?
