I have a male that I would like to get a puppy from... I would like to lease a female (titled/koer'd) but i have never done anything like leasing a female, even though I have had many litters.
How does it work? Do i just ask someone with a female i like to lease her?
What the typical fee to lease a female?
Will the female typically come stay with me from time of breeding until the puppies are weened?
Im jsut starting to research this so any help would be helpful.
thanks

Leasing basically has to do with you, as well as the owner of the said female's"REPUTATION." It's a two-side thing. Most importanly, u have to iron-out who takes responsibility should any serious inccidence happen to the bitch during the leasing period. It's risky n full of complications, except that it's done with a reputable breeder or a well-known-person. Of course, if your male is realgood as you wrote, you need not lease a female to get a pup from him, bcos people'll definately track you down for "mating/breeding" with their females. Research more n cheers. From NigerDeltaMann.

I have two bitches that I am leasing from my breed mentor. I know him very well and he trusts me with his bitches. I suppose for enough money, someone might lease you a bitch, but most people have plans for their bitches and it's true that any breeding you do with a bitch is risky. I have heard of bitches dropping dead before the puppies were born or after. A C-section might be required, which is additional risk.
The two bitches that I am leasing are not as interesting to my mentor, though I think they are the best things he ever bred. Basically, in one case, he wanted to keep hold of the bitch, so he sent her to us. He owns her, we lease for breeding and he might do a litter if he needs her and likes how she is producing. In a way, I am doing him a favor since I am doing breedings that he isn't interested in and so he gets to see what she's producing with these other dogs. The other bitch, he is sending to me just for the litter. This is a bitch that he MIGHT want to breed again, but she doesn't like him, therefore, he has a problem with her temperament. She is not biddable enough for him, but I like them a bit independent. So, it works out perfectly for me, and basically, he's gathering favors to use to get me to do something for him in the future.
Bottom line - don't expect a stranger to lease you any bitch that you like, though you might get lucky.

I do not recommend it; but if you do lease a female, get everything possible that COULD happen in writing, signed and agreed upon by both parties.
I am currently raising a female from a breeder that I would not have gotten, except the mother died when the puppies were six weeks. I wanted to wait until this litter grew up, watch them and possibly if I liked what I saw would get a puppies sometime (1-3 years) down the road. However, this could not happen in this case as the dam died. So anything can happen, this was a very healthy, loaded with milk bitch, puppies thrived from 0-4 weeks and she died. Of course, having no faith in the vet's, they could not find out why she died.
And yes if you have an exceptional male, people will seek you out and find you to breed to their bitches; if he is not that good then you should probably not use him at stud.
This breed currently needs exceptional dogs bred only; not just a run of the mill litter out there.

Forgot to add this "warning".. . . . Be careful not to lease from a ghost, otherwise, u'll have to go to hell to settle things-out, or u'll need d services of a witch-doctor to come out happy. From NigerDeltaMann.
