This is my first GSD and he is such a man! I know he is only 5 months, but I'm worried that he is a bit too lanky. I just want him to be able to grow into those large ears! Are GSD pups just really lean until they mature? Here's a picture of him....

Sambo - I can't see the picture.  How much does he weigh?  This is a good website to gauge where your pup should be.  Keep in mind that there are many different bloodlines - some smaller, some larger.  My 5 1/2 month old female is 60 lbs but she is long and tall and actually looks lean.

Your puppy is completely normal. All adolescent GSDs are lanky and look like Radar Towers. He's fine! He will grow into himself when he's about 18 months, give or take.

lean is good! its best to keen them that way. Your pup looks just fine!

It seems to be how all mine grow as well, Long, tall and thin, then a period of stoutness, then the ears start to look like sattellite dishes, lol. Then they stretch out again, go through this throughout the first year or so but then settle into their adult look and everything levels out and catches up to itself!

Every dog is different... one of my males looked like an anorexic up until he was about two when he started looking more "masculine". He's now 26.5" and 85 lbs, lean but healthy.

I should look as good.
