May I ask WHY you are looking for a retired K9 for your special needs daughter?

I don't know if/why he is looking for a retired K9 (as in police K9) - but if you are just looking for a retired CANINE - I know for instance that my breeding females make wonderful pet/companions - they are absolutely faultless in temperament with children, and most of them would be super for a special needs child (depending on the special needs of the child).  I have a couple Schh titled females getting ready for retirement (from breeding) they are still perfectly sound, healthy and I love for them to find homes where they can live in the house and have tons of attention, care and love for the remainder of their lives.  If this sounds like what you are looking for, contact me and we can talk about what I am looking for in retirement homes for my females.

Much better idea, Molly.

I cringe when I see people that think a retired K-9 is fit for a home with a child of special needs...Too many mistakes have been made in a transition to a home because people do not know what is involved in putting these dogs into retirement..

Some k-9s could be used, most I have had experience with would not be suited for that kind of   SPecial NEEDS child" . not at retirement age..

Average  John DOE   has no idea what is involved with a  K-9 retiree..'

Mollys offer is  the best you can find.

By saying retired K9 ,I do not only mean from police work.  Not all police K9 are unapproachable.  Some locally are very social and passive indicators.  We have had GSD for many years and currently possess two.

The statement was to mean a forever home for an appropriate dog and not puppy.  K9 have the obedience training already and we can get the additional training we need specific to our needs.

Due to working in the law enforcement field, we also want a dog with protective qualities, but not necessarily one with bite work.  I work frequently with active K9 locally.

One of my current dogs is a non-working search and rescue dog.  Thank you for the info. though.
