Hi, I am thinking of purchasing a schuzthund trained dog directly from a kennel or breeder in Germany. Can anyone recommend a reputable kennel? Also I do not speak German, but I have purchased German dogs locally here in the states. Thanks Mike

Mandy Menzel is very good. She is in Germany. I bought a female in March, she is now 10 months old. I am very happy with her.

Another person in Germany is Beatrice Lewald. (Also in Germany.)

They DO NOT deal w/brokers.

P.S. There is no guarantee when you buy from Germany. If that is wrong, pls correct me.

Be careful, get everything in writing and do your research.

Make sure you check all rip-off reports and everywhere else you can. search this board (see "search messageboard" just left of messagelist button) as well as goggle the kennel name, and owner's names, and dog's name.

Be clear about the health guarantee, if dog arrives ill, how long do you have to take it to a vet and who will pay for treatment?Ask questions about the dog's temperament, handling, socialization, and training - best using e-mail (its in writing)

Make sure you see a copy of the dog's pedigree and hip/elbow certification. ask to see a copy of score card and videos too, before agreeing to purchase.

Many times misunderstanding lead to disappointments. if you end up with less then you bargained for,  you are the one who will be expected to pay to ship it back.

Expect to pay a fair price for a fair dog, shipping will most likely cost more then you expect especially since the US dollar is at a 14 year low.

Happy shopping!

I would talk with Marcy Blank of Landschaft Kennels in Marengo, Illinois. She has great contacts throughout Europe and especially with Jabina Kennels in Denmark.  Check out her website, She also is a top breeder of European lines and the most ethical person I have ever known.

IF YOU BUY A 3,000 EURO DOG OVER THERE YOU WILL BE PAYING $4,475.40 USD AND DONT FORGET TO ADD IN THE SHIPPING.  GOOD LUCK, ITS A BAD TIME FOR THE US DOLLAR

Showline or Working Line?

Showline: Urbecke Kennels (Germany): Fritz Stenner is a very good guy.
Working Lines: Tiekerhook Kennels (Holland). Koos Hassing has top flight dogs and is very good as well.

Going to see the dog is very good advice. Shippng is about 600E.

Yeah, the dollar is horribly weak. I ended up paying about $13,000 for my female thanks to $1.57 per Euro. I would be extremely, extremely careful about importing yourself. I would never do it; I'm not egotistical enough to think I wouldn't get ripped off. It's common knowledge that they only want to send their shit dogs to the US. I would only go through a VERY TRUSTED friend w/FRIENDS in Germany...not brokers. Preferably, if they have to find you a dog, have them not tell the seller that the dog is going to the US. Heard too many horror stories.

The shipping is crimminal at this time. It will cost alomst $1600 and up  for shipping, Just not worth it. Also if you can buy the dog for a fair price, like one German would sell it to another it would be fine , but when they find out it comes to America watch out. if you wanted a pup you can buy as good a pup here as there if you are looking for working lines. But then you must take care , you have people asking $1000 and up on here for pups from untitled parents. Look around schutzhund clubs here you can find super nice pups for a wonderful price and some titled dogs as well.
