5 1/2 month female gsd - should I get her spayed? I'm worried how she'll be in the house when she goes into heat. Will there be a mess? I can control the breeing side of it.

If she is just going to be your pet, I see no reason not to spay her. Providing your vet gives her a clean bill of health. It can be dangerous to put a dog under sedation with certain underlying health problems, like heart or respitory problems.
Females in heat can be messy and can also attract unwanted attention from randy males from miles away.
Some people recommend letting the dog mature physically and mentally before the surgery.
Good Luck

I would strongly suggest that you wait until your female is full grown to spay her. She is still a teenager and if you spay her too early, she will never grow up.
When she comes into heet, keep her in her crate during the day when you are away and put a diaper on her when you are at home. Take the diaper off only when taking her out to do her business or when she is in her crate.....
Works like a charm.
If you do not intend to breed her, spay her a few weeks after her second heet.........she will be more grown up by then.
A female dog in heet is very managable.

Thanks - this is good to hear. I plan on spaying but not until she's full grown.
