Old fashioned, straight backed.....the list goes on.
I had a look at the link mentioned above and personally I wouldn't class them as either.
The 'old fashioned' of my day was the police dogs of the 50's/60's
Straight backed to me indicates the 'Alsatian' type which is in the UK.
Here is what I deem to be 'old fashioned'

VA1 Condor vom Hohenstamm
SchH3/FH Kkl 1
Sire Born : 01. May 1954
Not many like this around anymore unfortunately.
The ones with the 'straight backs' or classed as 'old fashioned' are mainly from 'breeders' who breed for coat and colour - this is what I have found looking around anyway.
I personally think one would need to get into the Army or Police lines for a true 'old fashioned'

However, I just stumbled across a kennel in S. Africa, which seems to be doing it right:

This is one of their dogs that I could find information on from pedigrees of local dogs I know -
www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/615406.html
They have a good reputation here in South Africa, (but not amongst the "show" enthusiasts) and I would love to see the history of the dogs they imported.

Hi Cossack
I agree with Sitasmom, you really need to show a pic to see what you mean by old style. Most working line dogs are still very much the same as they were well over 20 years ago, but memory can play tricks as far as size and shape go, most people remember they favourite dog as being bigger than it actually was. Your dog from that era could easily be typical of the showdogs from back then or even a dog that was not true to standard, plus there are national differences, for example the GSD from UK and the GSD from USA looked totally different to each other. What country are you?

I posted this pix previously. Would you consider this dog to be an "Old Fashion" style? He is 3 years old in this picture taken in 1970 (old Poloroid pix). Family GSD. I like his back -- not totally "boxy", and not overly angulated.
