On the average of $275.00. I also explained to them that I would send the X-ray to be checked out by a professional breeder and also put that xray on this site to get professional opinions before I send them to the OFA and if I was advised to not send the xrays because the dog was not properly xrayed, would I be charged for the second xray? So far all say yes.
I don't know about everyone else but I believe if it is their mistake, I should not be charged. What do you all think? And what about the price, does that sound about right?
Thanks

I was only charges for 1 x-ray.
I paid $318 Canadian and that was for hip and elbows.
I don't mine paying for quality x-rays but I well not pay for x-rays that are not the proper position.

I've been referred as two local specialists, but there must be others. They are REALLY not cheep!
Dr. Quick 1515 Lake Pointe Parkway, Sugar Land, TX 77478, (281) 491-7800
Brittmore Animal Hospital 1236 Brittmoore Rd, Houston, TX - (713) 468-8253
The OFA has a list of doctors that they recommended for hip surgeries, http://www.acvs.org/AboutTheACVS/DiplomateDirectory/
Maybe someone on this list might be less expensive....or maybe one of them might be able to refer you to a less expensive competent practice....one can only hope.
When you find one, please tell us about your experience.

About the same price here (upstate NY) and the same policies as well. Some charge a flat rate regardless of how many they take, and some charge per x-ray, even if they need to take several to get good ones "in their opinion". The dog is out of sedation before you are even able to see the x-ray(s), but I suppose they may redo them (for a charge of course) if you noticed while in the office that the positioning isn't good. How is one supposed to refuse to pay for them?? I have a dog that should pass OFA (in mine and others' opinions), but because of my endless incompent vets I cannot get one to do ideal positioning... which I think would make the difference. (See other threads I responded on for the example.) Very frustrating. Best of luck.

sachsenwolf, flat rate would be nice.

425 X-rays
60 certifying - OFA 40 + certified mail back and forth or (125 for SV through the WDA)
500 vet checks, vaccinations, etc for 2 years (underestimate)
1000 price of puppy
900 feed for two years - suplements??
Its already up to near 3000 with this short list...........and with no guarentees that the puppy has good hips and elbows.or if the dog ends up being of good conformaiton, with the right drives..
puppies are such a gamble.... and they are so lovable too!

Mikecast1, I think the story that you phoned around to get the best price and advised the clinics that you would have the X-Rays evaluated by a professional breeder would have put most of them off. You should have a vet you regularly deal with whom you trust to give you the best and most trusted service.
They may have viewed your approach as a threat and quoted high to ensure you would not darken their door. Also, that you advised that you would post the X-Rays on this site for "professional opinions?!!" That will send even Board Certified Radiologists running for cover.
