i assume that these are the dogs you are referring to.  i took the liberty to do a mating check and here is a link for people to refer to in forming an opinion.

this combination puts joker v schmiedegarten in a position for a high degree of inheritabilty of character/temperament in the puppies.  it makes chicco highly inheritable for structure.  troll is my personal favorite route to fero and by aly for good hips.  greif v herkulesblick will offer stability and nerve strength.  females from this breeding could be further used to pass on character traits of lasco since he would then move into the position to be dominant for passing temperament.  looks like a good plan to me.

No way. That would be too much Ilja. You need to look past Lasco. Chicco was already linebred 3-2 on Ilja. And when you do research, you also need to see what Luna has produced.
Both, Lasco and Luna are fantastic dogs and top producers. The last I heard is that they are still alive and healthy at 14 years of age.
To linebreed 2-3 on any dog, you need to be absolutely sure about the outcome, not only in regards to temperament and structure but most importantly health .  While it is a great tool to use at least one "outcrossed" dog for such a close inbreeding, it is never good to do that with dogs who themselves have already such a tight linebreeding in their own pedigree close up. And when you check the "reverse linebreeding" feature here, you will find no dogs who are closely linebred on him. I wonder why!!! Maybe, too much Ilja?

ilja has been very heavily linebred on, perhaps not thru lasco, but there are lots of breedings with ilja several times on the pedigree.  check ilja's reverse linebreeding.  i am not aware of any issues that ilja passed on.  that is not to say that there are none, but i am just not aware of it. i know of other breeders who have done similar type breedings with other dogs as well.  if there is a purpose, a plan, some trait the breeder is trying to "set in" it can be accomplished with this sort of breeding.  then, ofcourse, the subsequent breedings must be to another line. i guess i would not be afraid of it.  when you know the two dogs to be bred on a personal basis, that becomes the deciding factor;  if they compliment each other and do not posess the same weaknesses.

Ziegenfarm,
Ilja has had back surgery, not sure what age!!!  Some people state at 7 years of age, somebody else said 4 years. Regardless, that is still young.
A few years ago, not too much was given to that fact but the SV for example is now researching a lot about back problems and might make that mandatory in the future as part of the breeding selection process (just like they added elbows a couple of years ago). It is up to the individual how much emphasis you make on that knowledge, but for me personally, it would be something to prevent me from further closely linebreeding on a dog like that. But that is just me! Here in the U.S., people do not talk much about back problems, but I can tell you that in Germany they do. That is why I know of that problem in the first place! Yes, there are people who say that it is supposedly not really proven to be genetic and that breeding is all about taking chances, and there is a motherline to consider etc. etc. etc..
I agree that it is sometimes a good thing to closely inbreed on good dogs. But do you really think it is wise knowing that there have been health issues?

thank you for that.  as i said, i was not aware of any issues where he was concerned.  the good thing about boards like this is the exchange of info we would not get otherwise.  infact, i wish there was more available.  all the better to make informed desicions.
