Basically, there will be from 2010 in the SV, only the chip processes, an alternative tattooing of puppies is not possible.

The questions to answer for the Germans ... (please)

Why Microchip vs. Tattoo?

Problems with Tierschutverein? Animal cruelty?

Is there a website about these problems, or the change in chip vs. Tattoo?

Is there a official response?

What do you think?

RULES AND MESSAGE

The chipping of the SV

From 1.1.2010, the chipping of the SV is now compulsory.

Below is some information about this procedure.

Basically, there will be from 2010 in the SV, only the chip processes, an alternative tattooing of puppies is not possible.
For the chipping of the puppies are in the national group called ID-trained officer in a training to be undertaken by a veterinarian.

The ID-trained agents will assume responsibility in the recent Tätowierbezirken. I hope for our national group that we can retain the same Tätowierbezirke and no changes are necessary.

The responsibilities for the ID agent for the breeder will remain under the discipline policy. So it's basically responsible for the residential part of the breeder ID Officer / alternates with the chipping of the puppies to instruct.

The chipping is the earliest from the 50th Of life of the puppies at the breeder or Grower done.

In connection with the chipping each puppy a blood sample with the so-called GO-card system is removed, ie Removal of a drop of blood from the ear. This blood is used for any of the subsequent identification of the dog and can simultaneously for the creation of DNA profile to be used. The blood sample is stored at the request of the breeder can occur immediately or at a later date the establishment of the DNA profile.

The breeders also have the possibility of chipping with a veterinarian can perform their confidence. However, even here the ID officer to be present, he is obliged to reconsider the relevant endorsed Zuchtwart Wurfmeldeschein for completeness and formal correctness. In addition, the SV has its own chip numbers are available, the transponder can be ordered only on the agent ID and must be used by the veterinarian.

Should it come later for some reason always to make the dog must be re gechippt, it may be based on the first blood collection (when chipping) with the adjustment of a second blood sample, the identity to be clearly identified.

We will carry out in the National Group in the fall of the training of the ID representative.
It stated that they were not all tattoo artists willing to undertake this new task. Should there be from among the prospective members who want to declare for this new task, so I ask for such feedback.
I am pleased with everyone interested.

Some of the chips migrate and can be hard to locate. I like having both on the dogs.

I have chipped probably more than 100 dogs. I have never had a problem with the procedure or with reading the chip. Over time, I suppose a few may migrate, but even if they do, someone doing a proper and repeated scan should find the chip. In my opinion, chips are far superior to tattoos which all too often cannot be read, even when done with a good tattoo kit. Forget the use of a pen because unless you anesthetize the animal, you cannot begin to get the depth of ink needed to last. Even people who have tattooed many pets will admit that they become difficult to read later on with age. Some are better than others, of course. But in general, the tattoo method is inferior in my opinion. Of course, if one uses a chip and there is no reader, or worse, the chip can be read but the person doing the scan cannot find the registry, or the chip ID is found to be out of date, that does nothing for the dog.

The best alternative is to not let your dog get lost, but if it does, a collar with tags, and a chip means a better chance of that animal being reunited with the owner. I am very glad to see the change. But, any system, is worthless if not properly administered or all the steps taken by those using it to ensure accurate information.

I elect and practice the use of both the microchip and the tattoo. The first is for absolute identification and the latter is for quick identification.

Tatoos can be VERY easy to track, if you subscribe to the service.

I actually also like them both, Having both is more save and reliable, the SV wants to completely do away with Tatoo's
I noticed when I got my dog from Germany who only had been chipped the scanner we have here does not recognize the European chip yet , we tryed diffrent Vets , Shelthers etc. could not find the chip then desided to drive to the Airport here ask the customes to scan the dog but also could not find the chip due to the scanner. So I think they should also Tatoo the Dogs comming from Europe, just to be on the save side.

delacruz germanshepherds, since we can not read the ones coming over from europe, is it possible to put 2 into the dog?
Horrible question, but I would still like to know. Who is making these things we are putting into our dogs? We have had so many problems with overseas items, food, drywall, pyrex, clothes, carpet glue.

My dogs are all chipped and tattoo'd numerous times. With Granduer; The chip from the breeder overseas, my own chip for tracking, two personal tattoo's but not in the ear. I prefer the tatz on the body. She looks good with Tribal.  LOL

I dunno, I lost 2 GSD over the years due to theft, so I do things different lately.
