How about this 9 month female?
I'm concerned!
Do hips ever improve from 9 months to 2 years?

She is now 18 months and not showing any signs of pain.
We will be doing another x-ray soon.

Postioning is terrible. So, hard to tell if the hips would look better with correct positioning. But, as I see it, I'd be worried too. The left hip (right on the picture) is barely seated in the socket - just barely - not a lot of coverage at all. The right isn't much better. The sockets themselves could be deeper but I don't think they look flat - the femur heads look nice and round - ???? but if you sent these in I doubt they would pass. I'm interested in seeing the x-rays at 18 months.

She went into her first heat about 3 days later, can this make a difference?

Me too, now all I have to do is to find a qualified vet, that I can afford, to take the new ones.

It looks like the dog is rolled lower on it,s right hip so it makes the left hip appear higher. The heat won,t effect the socket depth normally more lactisity is present in heat cycles. Not a very clear xray either. My vet uses digital equipment and the xrays are very clear and it,s quicker. Get some better photos I,d be intrested to see how they have changed.

why not wait until 2 years old. Personally I do not like to x-ray more than needed and you will have to wait until 2 for certification anyway. You will just have to pay that fee again 6 months later as well.

I agree with olskoolgsds, unless there is a need for x-rays in case of injury, don't bother until she is 2. Waste of money and worry. Time will tell. Relax, enjoy her.

I agree with the others. Terrible positioning and it is usually best to wait until the dog is fully matured before making a decision. Puppy skeletons change more than you can imagine. At 9 months I'm sure it's still doing funky things and will continue to do so. Ever seen hips of a 4 month old? They look completely dysplastic and then at 2 can be excellent. Good luck with your dog!
