Geronimo, a mutt that was part Shepherd, and raised millions of dollars for war bonds by jumping out of aircraft, is going to be honoured with a memorial. Thanks to the Canadian Service Dog Yahoo group for the link and info:

http://www.columbusdispatch.com:80/live/content/local_news/stories/2009/11/01/MIKE01.ART_ART_11-01-09_B2_KLFHM7E.html?sid=101

After his first jump, when he had to pushed out of the plane, Geronimo willingly jumped out of the aircraft on all of his other jumps.

That's more than you could get me to do!

That's really odd.  How does a dog that jumps out of airplanes get a name like Geronimo?

"Geronimo" is what paratroopers yell as they exit the aircraft.
The memorial was dedicated on 25 Sep 2009 on Sacrifice Field at the War Dog Memorial.
I'll try to get some of the pictures from the MWD Kennel and post them later.
The event was attended by Ft. Benning's MWD's and South Georgia SAR. Plus the last surviving member to jump with SGT Geronimo.
