Was wondering if anyone had information on Head coat GSD's. Were looking for pictures or someone who owns or have owned.  With the search limited to the head. Maybe an external link or internal pedigree link. Our 5 month old GSD has what appears to be and we have not seen any information. Sorry for offending anyone whom may be against  the "standard" GSD guideline but both parents are standard.

I have no idea what you mean by "head coat".  Your dog appears to be what?  I don't understand what it is you're asking, please clarify.

Do you mean you think your dog may be a "coat", or long coated but has standard coat on the body and long on the head???

It appears that her adult coat has not yet come in.  Yes, by looking at her ear tufts, she appears to be a coat.  Does she have long hair between her toes or pads?  Actually, I think she's very pretty, and personally, I like the coats.  I can' t think of examples of a coated dog with stock on body and fuzz on the head but it will be interesting to see how she matures.  I wouldn't worry too much about it, if you are happy with her, isn't that all that truly matters?  Uh, and if you're not happy with her, you could ship her to me (just kidding)

thank you we are very pleased, just it seems she draws attention for the coat and not for her excellent deposition. We just can not find similar features and yes she does have long hair between toes. She was labeled coat we could care less just concerned with health. Sorry highly sensitive to anything unusual because we lost our 16 month old GSD this past July to kidney disease.

I'm sorry for your loss, I've been there as I lost my coated boy at 22 months.  That's why I have such a soft spot for coats  I used to get all kinds of questions about what he was "mixed with".  Don't let that bother you, the general public thinks only stock coat black/red is the only "real" color and coat texture.  You'll get over your sensitivity as you settle in to your new girl.  Just enjoy her and please, update us with pics as she matures.  I do think she's very pretty, glad you are happy with her.

thank you again I've read on this board criticism toward coat questions and just a little defensive. Just all the coats I've seen tend to be long on back and parted. I seen some "semi coats"? but standard says coat or not? Seems that if there coat or not than it would be natural to be blended to some degree. Not just one or another.  And so sorry for your loss I'm certain it was as devestating as ours.

The standard states that a coat that is too long is considered a fault.  However, you must bear in mind that all dogs have faults to some degree.  I don't think anyone has bred the "perfect" dog, even if some come pretty close.  And although some would argue that the coats should not be bred, I don't believe anyone would say that the dog is not worth owning.  There are many dogs with good structure, temperment and color, the coat is only one consideration in the overall dog.  My boy was the only coat in his litter and I wouldn't have traded him for the world.  He was also monorchid and had to be neutered.  This didn't bother me as he was never meant to be bred.  So, my point is, I was more than happy with him and was crushed when I lost him, faults and all.  I would have done anything to save him but it was out of my hands.  He was telling me he couldn't live the way he was (paralyzed) so I did what I felt was right for him, I had to let him go.  If I could find another with half the temperament and personality, I wouldn't care if he were green and purple with hair dragging on the ground, because to me, he was exactly what he should have been.  As long as you're not breeding known faults I don't think anyone would have much to say about a dog that is less than perfect.  If she is doing what you hoped for her when she was purchased, she should be perfect in your eyes, and it sounds as though she's already living up to that!  Just relax and enjoy her, faults and all!
