So I have a question...

Why do we use fur savers? Whats the history behind them? I know we have to use them in trial and such but my question is why?

I was stumped when someone asked  me about Oceans, hence why I'm asking :)

Thanks!

Also where do you get your fur savers? :)

goggle fursaver, or German show show collar............

fursaver collars have fewer links and fewer possible "collisions" with fur, So the fur will not be as cut or broken where the collar is.......

AH, I didn't know if there was something else behind it or not.

Thanks. :)

As for my understanding, you do not have to trial in a fur saver. You can use flat collar, but no choke or pinch.

O, ok. I'm more curious about the history behind them, when they were first used and why?

the reason they use them... as the name itself applies is... to save fur around the neck area from friction with other types of collar and not to make hair there thinner or balding or sagging inside having the collar outline on the coat even if you take a collar off.

The rings are bigger and hanging loosely, therefore less rubbingand traction on the coat. Company Herm Sprenger makes the best ones, so measure your dog's neck, if it's a medium GSD 23 mm fursaver will do fine, a little bigger 24 mm,or a large shep 25.

Whoever told you it is a schutzhund trial requirement is wrong. It's not. You can use any kind of collar, as long as it's not a prong collar, choker, e-collar etc... You can use any flat collar if you want. Most people use them in schutzhund trials, including me, cause that's what's the dog wears every day. Snd it wears it every day because it "saves fur", again with the name...

Hope that helps.

They are essentially useless, by the way.  The coat is still damaged by their use.
