Why do we use fur savers? Whats the history behind them? I know we have to use them in trial and such but my question is why?
I was stumped when someone asked me about Oceans, hence why I'm asking :)
Thanks!

fursaver collars have fewer links and fewer possible "collisions" with fur, So the fur will not be as cut or broken where the collar is.......

I order my fur savors from Elite K9...
www.elitek9.com/Collars/Herm_Sprenger/Fur_Saver/index.htm
I get the 3.4mm one....it is the first one on the link above.

The rings are bigger and hanging loosely, therefore less rubbingand traction on the coat. Company Herm Sprenger makes the best ones, so measure your dog's neck, if it's a medium GSD 23 mm fursaver will do fine, a little bigger 24 mm,or a large shep 25.
Whoever told you it is a schutzhund trial requirement is wrong. It's not. You can use any kind of collar, as long as it's not a prong collar, choker, e-collar etc... You can use any flat collar if you want. Most people use them in schutzhund trials, including me, cause that's what's the dog wears every day. Snd it wears it every day because it "saves fur", again with the name...
Hope that helps.
