It takes what it takes. Old school training did not worry as much about pain, but about results for the dog. Personally, I would rather experience a little pain and be more in touch with what the dog is doing because sometimes pain is the only real, solid evidence of what we have. Much may be unecessary, but there is a percentage that is necessary. Some of it may be macho, no doubt, but some is learning by experience to appreciate the dog to the fullest.

When we go through the K9 school every body decoys several times a day for 4 months. Those bruises never heal the entire time. If your smart you wear neoprene gauntlets which helps a lot. Goes with the territory.

Not nearly as bad as the photos of other guy but here is one from his first day in a suit at a PSA workshop/cert. You should have seen his legs when first got started decoying for ring dogs, ewww

Prager, couldn't have been a GSD on a "Malinois" suit, bites were too high and that requires lift.
