Hello,

I am shipping my dog (not a GSD) back from his trip to Germany in a month or so.  He will be traveling accompanied as excess baggage on Lufthansa Airline.  Can anyone tell me if there is anything more needed than:

1) a current rabies vaccine
2) a veterinary certificate for the airline

This seems like too few hoops to jump through, but I don't find any more information about it than that.  Can anyone tell me if that's all I need?

Thanks!

They will not board if they feel the crate is to small.

All you need from Germany to the US is a Rabbies certificate signed by a Vet within 10 days of traveling.

That's it.

Happy traveling

Just came home from Germany with my dog.  Crate size is a big issue at Frankfurt airport.  My female is about 65-70 lbs and the 500 size vairkennel was ok for her.  However, some of my friends with larger male GSDs had a few problems with crate size.

Depending on where you live you may need an acclimation certificate. If it is below 45 degrees f. you will absolutely need it! They will not ship if it is below 20 degrees.  Now that the weather is getting colder you will need to keep an eye on that.
Hope that helps some!

You may end up shipping the dog. It may be more expensive, but it is less trouble. I highly recommend PetAir in
Frankfurt / Main Germany (Do not  confuse it with  any other company who claim that they are Pet Air here in USA).
Here is a link :

http://www.petair.de/English/01EngHome.html

If you call them from USA dial:011 49 69 69 7450
They speak English. Call during their business hours. 6 hours ahead of EST. If you will ship with them they will answer any questions in professional manner.
