blogs.westword.com/latestword/2009/10/leaked_photos_of_dead_pit_bull.php
I won't post the pictures directly on the board, as they are shocking to say the least. Denver Colorado passed an anti Pittbull law, and has been destroying pitts...
"Denver News Blog
As part of the feature story on the effectiveness of the Denver's twenty-year-old law outlawing pit bull breeds, Westword posted a photo blog of dogs impounded in a section of the municipal animal shelter known as Pit Bull Row. Now, photographs have surfaced apparently showing some of the estimated 3,487 pit bull carcasses that have been carted away from from the shelter since the ban was enacted.
The photo-taker, who asked to remain anonymous, tells Westword the pictures were taken in 2006 on the grounds of the city animal shelter. According to officials, animals euthanized by the shelter are removed by a contractor for disposal. "
Some of those pictures are little puppies.... vicious I'm sure!!
Breed Specific Laws are dangerous to us all... First the Pitts, next German Shepherds, Or Dobis, or Rotties... etc...

Saddening, but it's not that surprising. It should be shocking, but that's just the way things are done, regardless of what breed has been euthanized. What do you think your vet does with the bodies of animals euthanized when the owners don't want to take them home and bury them? They aren't buried in the cemetary; they are carted off to be incinerated.
The same thing happens at kill shelters, regardless of the breed.
The fact of the matter is that it's irresponsible to just look at a dog, tag it, and then euthanize it because of breed. The town my aunt lives near banned Pitts a few years back, and anyone moving into that town with a Pitt has to get rid of the dog, no exceptions. That's how my aunt found herself the owner of a female Pitt mix that appeared in her yard one night. Someone dumped it so they didn't have to euthanize it.
The dog is a very nice dog, somewhat wild, but not a biter or a real barker. She'll make a good dog for the right person, though my aunt, who's in her mid sixties, wasn't sure she wanted a dog at all. She didn't know how to handle the dog, and the dog didn't have many manners, jumping all over the place everytime you got near her. I gave her some advice on how to work with the dog, and she's settling down, but my aunt finds herself with a dog the law says had to go.
To top it all off, the vet who did the spay and the shots, said the dog was familiar to him, but wouldn't tell her who owned the dog, or anything about it's life. I wish her the best of luck. She wanted me to take the dog, but I have Oakley and Misty, and I don't personally like the Pitt at all...Though "Cinnabun" is a nice enough dog, I admit.
I don't mean to sound cruel, but we lived very close to a vet clinic, and we saw what was done with the carcasses of animals that were euthanized. I worked in our local animal shelter, before it became a no-kill shelter, and it was the same thing there.
Now, they hold on to dogs until they are found homes, even if they are so aggressive that no one would even dream of taking a chance on them. I'm not sure living your life in isolation is any better than a peaceful death.

Is there any effort in the area to repeal the ban?
by mtndawg on 15 October 2009 - 22:10
"Twenty year old ban"....the problem is not the law, but the people who ignore it and put the dogs in these situations. I live just outside Denver county, and there are pits everywhere out here. If you see a dog running loose, 50/50 it's a pitbull. About a month ago a 70+ year old woman was attacked by 2 pits that were running loose and almost killed.

I worked for CBS in Denver at the time the pit bull ban was repealed..
I did several stories on a family whose beautiful and gentle staffy-bull was imprisoned in the Denver shelter. It had been a family pet for years.. slept with their little boy.
Because of the stories we did on the family, and because of the representatives that we got involved in the case, the law was repealed.. considered in violation of a state law...
It was the last and best thing I did before leaving channel 4... I was glad to be part of the story bringing the sick truth out.
The dog was released, and the awful law was repealed.
Unfortunately, it was revived one year later..
Denver and its suburb, Aurora, have bans on pit bulls, and also breeding bans. Which is exactly why I don't live in either city.
I'm afraid only education will ever stop the knee-jerk stupidity.
There are people who shouldn't own a chia-pet that have animals...
They pass on all the bad habits and poor judgement to their kids..
More people move in and are too close together in the clone-homes, and trouble starts.
Several years ago, a pair of pits escaped a yard in a nearby county, and killed a woman in a horse arena. After killing her, they went a half mile to another home, and attacked a man in his front yard.. The man yelled to his young son to get the rifle, and the kid shot one of the dogs.. the sheriff shot the other one.
The people who owned the dogs had a small yard, badly maintained, garbage fencing, junk everywhere.. the neighbors had been complaining for some time.
Sad.
And for those of you who don't know, most shelter animals that are sent "out" are not always incinerated...
Many are sent to rendering plants where they become "meat meal"..
That is ingredient #4 on lots of your commercial dog food.
Yes.

If owning a PB is now illegal I agree its the owners who put their animals at risk.
The law itself is typical of what gets on the books in some of these cities these days, who votes, who's elected, who's got the power, who is actually responsible for these laws?
Who is breeding and selling dangerous dogs?
The law wasn't passed without some precedent.
The pictures remind me of WW ll and the death camps, its ugly, but the dogs are dead, thats what a truck load of dead dogs looks like.
Whats a mauled child look like?
I've seen plenty of pit dogs before and after the match, thats not pretty either.
I'd rather they died than kill someone or their child, better dead than in the ring, better off than in a shelter, I blame the owners first and foremost, society comes in second.
Who the hell wants to live in Denver anyway, I wouldn't.
As for dog food, I just don't care. Thats a whole different thread.
Shits so fucked up now, no one will ever get it right again.
I'm fed up with ugly, really fed up.

As long as blacks own pitbulls, the dogs will be persecuted. That's just my opinion.

by Two Moons on 16 October 2009 - 03:10
I don't think that has a damned thing to do with anything Bucko.
I know it doesn't.
Your allowed to have this opinion, but its incorrect.

Mystere, There's plenty of effort to stop it. An independent filmmaker friend of mine has made a movie called Beyond the Myth, slated to come out in spring (still on the editor's desk).

anyway I think that's right.

Actually, there's recent research that shows that Bucko is right. It does seem to be a RACIST issue...not a race issue. Basically, it's a lot easier to pick on the dogs than on the gangs. Too bad NICE families have to get smashed up in the meantime, no matter what color they are.
