Rookabadooka

My dog Abbie is usually great with the kids.  They are 3 and almost 2 and she shows remarkable patience...accept when we swing on the swings.  She can not stand it!   I do not know what to do.  She gets all wired and tries to bite the swing.  When I tell her to stop and back off she stands there and barks at me.  SOOOOOO not like her.  It would be funny if it did not happen EVERY time the kids get in their swings.  She is old, almost 12, so I do not want to stress her.  I put her in the house but I can hear her crying from inside!  The worst is when I get on the swing FORGET ABOUT IT.  I think she would yank me off given the chance.  Any ideas on this? why she does it? what it means?  Does it have to do with the movement?  Could she think it is not safe?   I would love ideas on how to curb this if anyone has any.

Thanks for taking the time to read / post

Have you tried using the down? Perhaps if you have her out on the lead, and take small steps, have the dog down by the swings, praise and treat for just that. Then try moving the swing, praise and treat for her allowing it, and if she reacts, put her back in the down and try again. keep moving forward in small steps to desensitize her. hope it helps

She could care less about the swing till someone is on it.  The kids can push and put toys in them and she is fine.  Gonna have to put the kids on the swing with my husband pushing and try that technique.  Problem is soon as it moves with person on board she gets upset.   I think she has "danger, danger"  in her head.  I swear you can almost hear her saying, "stop you crazy fool, you will hurt my babies!"   HAHAHA, thank you for your imput.  I appreciate it :)

Mine reacts the same way when someone dives in the pool. I think it can become a compulsion. You need to get some control, make her down, yes. With some work we got ours to down outside the gate of the pool area. But if the diving gets too wild, we end up putting him in the house or I won't have any plants left alive from his worry.
