What is the best, least expensive wormer and where do I get it ?

by happyday on 13 October 2009 - 19:10

What type of dog do you have and what type of worms are you trying to get rid of?

I believe that panacur is a good all aorund wormer. Don't think it works for certain types of tapeworms though.

Panacur and Ivemec and also the use of DE all the time...about covers it here in Texas

you can go to www.beaglesunlimited.com and check out some of the aritcles under beagle health...however let caution be your guide and be sure you're well versed on measurements of certain medications(cc's,mg's,ect.).and as always,if you're in doubt, take your dog to the vet!

My old vet got me started on Pyrantel, for regular wormings and ivermec for monthly heartworms treatments. It works so far.

Best / least expensive?
These terms do not really go together.

Pyrantel Pamoate is great for puppies but for adults it is not complete. It is safe on all babies and is the first one I use as it is less harsh.

Then I finish up with Panacur for the last wormings after 6 weeks.old

This is how I do my dogs, I have a fecal sample run to see if there are worms to begin with, if there are worms I treat with panacur. After treatment  and the dog is heartworm negitive, I place the dog on hw meds that have an intestinal medication already with it. Examples are Heartgard plus and Sentinel which I have my dogs on all year around. I hope this helps.
Always,
Cee
