I wanted to put an advertisement in a magazine and I see it calls for "camera ready" ads. I'm not sure exactly what this means, is there a program somewhere that I can design my own ad? I guess I could also send in my photos and pay them to design the ad, but I'd prefer to do it myself. Any suggestions?

Not the answer you are looking for but if you'll humor me what are you advertising?

"Camera-Ready" is a term used in the prepress area of a printing shop. It means that the artwork and text are arranged on a job sheet in the correct manner and can be used for the template. The job sheet is placed on the platen of a large precision camera that makes a snapshot and from this prepares a film negative.
These days, most printers can accept digital files, but one must be careful and ask which formats are acceptable. Larger printing shops can open virtually any type of file, but again one must ask. Many shops still have cameras as well, as some artwork is still drawn by hand on the template. Just check with the publisher and determine what they need from you.
