Weeks, no, months before the SV-Sieger Show, a dozen threads are opened here on Pedigreedatabase to talk and guess about who is going to take it away this year. Speculations, but fun, still very predictable if you know the big breeders, the judges and their friends.

Today, when the real competition for the Allrounder, the true GSD starts, everyone is sound asleep.

Am I completely alone in my quest for the real German Shepherd Dog, or are there others awake?
My guess is, that Javir vom Talka Marda will take it away, putting all Barbies and Kens (VA's) back in their places. Whilst they have received their SchH3-stamps on desolate, foggy fields, dogs like Javir demonstrate their abilities fair and square out in the open with every new contest.

Now I wish my friend Fred Lanting would change his ideas about the real GSD and come to the BSP instead of visiting the Sieger Show (which is a S H O W as a matter of fact) and write his impressions about THIS event and these real GSD's. To my liking, he has exagerated a little this year by quoting the breed values for many young dogs that don't even have offspring with screened hips, so it was totally superfluous to even mention them, they tend to mislead the public.

Javir has an overall average HD-quote of 1,13 for all of his screened progeny and a breed value of 70 (with 120 out of 407 offspring diagnosed) against an overall HD-quote of a sad 1,41 for Vegas (who by the way has a light form of dysplasia = HD2) and the regular breed value of merely 85, rising fast with every new diagnosis sent in to the SV, thus mostly ending with the number 100 or higher (let's name a few examples only: Ulk von Arlett: 101, Eiko Kirschental: 100, Zamb Wienerau: 104, Nero vom Hirschel: 102, Quantum Arminius: 97, Larus Batu: 99). Now these dogs have never proven their working abilities, we all know what the Schutzdienst at the Show is worth, and you have certainly seen the depressing footage I guess.

But let's forget about the cat walk showmodels and talk real GSD. Who do you expect will beat Javir vom Talka Marda?
Curious to know what you think!

Very well put, however it will fall on deaf ears here in the States.  We love 'em "gorgeous", brains are of little concern.  As the show vs. working division becomes greater and greater, why don't we just let the conformation folk have their way and just separate the 2 and have a separate breed?  That's what they want anyway.  Give it a different name or put an asterisk behind it or call it a GSD1 or GSD2, or something.  Comparing it to what the good Captain had in mind as far as temperament and physical structure go, is an insult.  Why is it we have judges that specialize/prefer one area, ie working/show?  That right there begins the separation.  With all due respect to the late Mr. Przybylski, you could have counted the dogs on one hand that actually deserved a "pronounced" protection rating at this year's Sieger Show.  It was almost funny.  I myself was actually laughing on more than one occasion at the feeble attempts by some of the dogs to perform even the simplest of SchHI protection routines.  Bottom line, in the end, the breed pays the price as the bank accounts get fatter.

"however it will fall on deaf ears here in the States. " - Says who? There are many in USA watcing very closely and paying our 25 Euros to see the live streams.

"We love 'em "gorgeous", brains are of little concern." - Wrong. Who's "we"? In "we" that I know, the dogs have to work, or it'a not a working GSD. There are some exceptions when a black and tan dog works, brings a smile to my face. I prefer them sables, but a good dog is a good dog. If one wants a sable dog and has a black and tan, call Julie Martinez, she'll fix it right up. For a fee, of course.

"why don't we just let the conformation folk have their way and just separate the 2 and have a separate breed?" -  Unless you just landed from planet Uranus on this one, that's the way it has been since Bodo and Bernd Lierberg. I personally, consider them separate breeds and don't concern myself with show dogs at all, they are just pets that kinda look like mine and dogs I am familiar wth anyway.

No Jantie. You are not alone. I LIVE for the day when I can go to my next BSP and watch the big boys (and girls!) do their thing with the best of the best in the Father land.

Sorry about that folks! Made a mistake!

Nice to see people are awake indeed. Hi all!
Betting still allowed?

Based on past results, I could picture the following tight results:
Javir vom Talka Marda with Michaela Knoche 99 97 98 = 294
Eric vom Sportpark with Jürgen Zank 100 96 97 = 293
Sugar vom Kammberg with Rudolf Gimpel 99 95 98 = 292

Isaac vom Bracheler See apparently performed an astonishing track but will fade away from the top.
Opal von der Röderburg will need a superior obedience to reach top5.

Just speculating, one can be out of the running with a single mistake, but it will be very close indeed!

I wish all 3, Javir, Eric and Sugar the best performance of their lives.
And then later, I will watch them compete against the very young Como vom Bonauer Wald.

IMO, the BSZS vs BSP are considered these days as Show vs Sport for the german shepherd dog breed.  They are both breed for their extremes to a certain degree to excel in their specification.  Therefore, one can consider some degree amount of flaws in both aspects from what was advocated by Captain Max.

Steering back this way, I have a question for you MaggieMae, Schutzhund was developed as a tool to evaluate the GSD for breeding correct?  So, why is it that the show line dogs have such a difficult time performing a series of utilitarian acts that were designed for it?  I won't even get into what the American show lines have become.  And, if the fitness for breeding is based on the performance of the Schutzhund dog, and the show line dogs really can't do the Schutzhund, should the show line dogs even be bred?  If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck.
