I have included some pictures that the owner sent me. The pictures of her bite work were of her at a year old, and the standing picture (which I know isn't all that great) was taken today. I'm hoping those of you who are experienced can guide me. Please, if you just plan to criticize or flame, move on. I'm trying to learn, and I'm trying to find a suitable female to get me started in the Sport. She has not been hip/elbow checked as of yet (I'm hoping I can get a contingency if I'm interested in her, that I will have her checked before I purchase)
They are asking $1500 for her, and I'm also wondering if that is a good price for such a female. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!!!

I forgot to say, she was a German Import, and the only reason the owner is selling is because he is moving back to Germany and wants to concentrate on showing and titling his Malinois.
He has offered for me to come see her and he will work her for me.

You are probably at least a year away (if not more) from any titling with her because there is always re-training involved with any dog..some more than others.. someone telling me this dog is ready for whatever title doesn't mean that to me that dog is ready.. retraining is way harder than training from the ground up
I would also want to see video first of her on a sleeve.. the rag thing was 2 years ago and i would try to have someone experienced look at it......
I'd also want to know what her food drive is like and her toy drive..you need some ammo and tools to make your training move along if you are gonna do it
Most important, don't rush or allow yourself to be rushed into it......
The price is pretty good but scares me a little (sorry I've gotten very skeptical)..... but if her hips and/or elbows aren't good, then you are stuck.. if she doesn't have the oomph, then you are stiuck... our breeding females need to be very strong with powerful grips and drive and desire......
She may end up being perfect, and I hope that's the case but at the very least i think you need to find someone with some experience to help you.. do you belong to a club??
Good luck, just trying to be the voice of reason

rowdy:
I do like her pedigree, and yes I,d only purchase her pending hip certification from OFA and only after you have seen her work in person.
I,d also want to see her on different grounds for evaluation get her off familear grounds in a neutral setting. get her in some different settings and see how she reacts, take her to a park, farm store, mall ect,.. and see how she reacts to the people and surrondings, I,ve seen dogs look real good at home and when they get to there new home or off home field there a complete different dog.
If you know any competent helpers take them along and let them work her, If the owner has a issue with that find another dog.
If I,m not ,mistaken the AWDF doesent register dogs. I don,t believe they have a registry. The price is not out of line.
Good luck with your purchase and search and remember ,Don,t get in a big hurry or buy the first dog you look at.

Bob...thank you so much, I was hoping you would chime in! You have so much knowledge, and I wish you were closer to me, as I would love to learn from you! I will definitely take your advice...the owner seems pretty willing to let me do what I need to do to see if this is the right fit. He doesn't want to sell the dog to just anyone, but someone familiar with the breed, and while he would love to see her titled, he is just as concerned for her to be part of the family. He was telling me how much she loves to be with her humans, and LOVES children...which is another reason why, if she is as he is telling me, she would fit well with our family. I have a daughter that I am hoping would eventually want to try the sport as well, and having a kid friendly dog that is ready to go would help her out quite a bit.
Also, Bob (or anybody else that is good with lines), can you shed a little light on her pedigree for me? I'm not great at deciphering pedigrees, and I would love to know what is behind hers.
Thanks again, you guys are awesome!!

So much knowlegde.? hahaha What I know is but a drop in the bucket to most GSD folks, but I know what Iike.
I like her pedigree,s line breeding and I love Troll vom Haus Milinda I,d see if the breeder of the pup could give you some info on the other litter mates or do a search on the here name find siblings and contact those owners and see how they have turned out.
At 3 years old i,m sure some of her litter mates have been titled and probably bred if so check that out also. lots of work to be done so do it right the first time and save the heart ache latter.

The pedigree on that bitch is very nice. For $1500, I would definitely take her, but I would do as some others said and see her temperment first and possibly see about getting the prelims, since you did mention possibly breeding her later. (I don't know how long that takes and how much of a rush the owner is in to sell her)
If she were under a year old I wouldn't hesitate at all, but at 3 it's a good idea to meet her in person and see what kind of socialization she has had. Beautiful pedigree. If she turns out to be half as nice as her pedigree you'll have a very nice dog!
Best of Luck
Stacy
