I would like some examples of how some folks here introduce tracking to there dogs?

I start with making 6 to 8 scent pads in  semi circle each about 4 to 6 foot apart and make them oh I,d say 3 foot round and place finger nail sized hot dog cuts in several spots and rub them down thru the grass to the dirt. Then bring the pup or young dog up to the scent pad and let him work it over finding the food thru thr crushed vegitation just as he is about finished (not completly) I bring him off the pad back to the center and then back into another pad till he works thru all of them.

I,m prepearing to start a young female in tracking and just wantted some ideas to compare to and possibly try.

It all depends on the dog temperment , I usually let the dog see some one laying the track in front of  the dog if he is calm then let dog to fallow the track layer other wise wait till he finish laying 10 to 15 steps and remove the track layer off the sight then track the dog or if dog is too excited might not let him to see it at all and try to bring the dog calmly to track via food or OB .at first  lay heavy track and slowly ease up on heavy track  plus track at very low grass or dirt if possible

Start a pup out early dragging treats and hiding treats under objects using multiple objects and multiple choices.
Just start the pup using its nose early on.
Then go into your tracking routine.

I started my dog very similar to your description. But not to hijack your thread, I actually had a tracking question and since we're on the subject... I'm new to tracking, I know not to track a dog on fresh cut grass, but how long should you wait to track on it after it's cut?
Thanks!
