Help with essay for school on German Shepherds.

I have to write a review essay for school and I have decided to do it on the effects that German Shepherds and the effects they have had on the world. Do you guys have any ideas for things I need to include? or any great articles on the web that would help? Any ideas,quotes,facts and info?

p.s. any English majors out there...Will this topic work for a review essay? She wanted it to be on like a product...like movie or CD. But I dont see why this wouldnt work also.

There was actually an example in the book where this lady reviewd dog food...it was a really good story. She took my first idea. lol

Review the jobs these dogs do everyday from SAR, to Law enforcement, including military duty.

Hey Kelly,
That's a broad topic. How about GSD's as service dogs and the history of the breed? You could write about the seeing eye dogs and the job they do, check out FIDELCO. They breed, raise and train GSD's for guide dog work.

How about Police K9's? If you want a "product" type paper, maybe Fidelco would work. Actually, the GSD is their product and it performs a great service.

Thanks you guys...these are great ideas. Anymore...? Anyone know any good articles about german shepherds? I hace managed to find a couple but the best ones are hidden. On breeders sites ect...

There is a lot of info on Rin Tin Tin (you can also find him on the net along with the breeder), he was a gsd movie star I think in the 50 or early 60's. There is a breeder who had kept his lines and does not allow sales of the dogs to breed, only thru her. if you need a product, you could use the TV series and then, the reason for the popularity still on going to the versatility of the GSD, serves the blind (was the first breed to do so). Kershental GSD from Germany was the first breeder to ship over German dogs to be used for the seeing eye program, either their site, or the net has a good article on it. As stated above, War dog, serves the blind, police dog, family dog, sports dog,herding. Because of the versatility of the dog it reaches across wants, needs and heart of the public.

How about an essay on how greed and politics have taken over and destroyed the breed? You can use the recent tail breaking incident from the WDA SS and the "Hear no Evil, See no Evil" philosophy of USCA. Back it up with the less than stellar performance video footage from the SV SS and USCA show. I've got an 8 mo. old Malinois that does better bite work, with more heart than any of the dogs at the Arlington Hts. SS. When will the SV stand up and admit that they are not only ruining the health of the breed, but also the temperament and working ability? Is money so important in the world today that we have no morals (tail incident) and even fewer scruples?

KellyJ, you may want to reference 2000 Canadian Sieger VA Uno v Bullinger, a Crisis Response Dog who was on the ground in the aftermath of 9/11. I'm pretty sure SchH USA did an article on him. I'll see if I can't dig it up and scan it for you if you like.
