Why is it that so many people in the US brag about their GSD's being so over-sized?  130 lb males, what are they thinking?

YOU ARE PREACHING TO THE CHOIR  SISTER.  I HATE THIS BIGGER IS BETTER STUFF. WHATS WITH ALL THESE GIRLS WHO SAY SIZE MATTERS?  WHAT HAPPENED TO GOOD THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES?

They are thinking the bigger the dog, the more powerful and intimidating

Haha!  Damn you were on a roll!  I'm so happy I finally found two pet stores nearby that actually know about good foods (their employees actually push raw and grain free foods and helped me find a grain free food for my cats at the same price as the others).  I no longer even venture in to the type of store that would attract these people (*cough*Petsmart*cough*).

A few times while walking Nikon (who was probably 4-6 mos at the time) and Kenya (almost 6 years) I've heard people say "nice puppies!"  My bitch is 22" and 55lbs, pure working lines with some well-knowns in her pedigree and she's a UKC champion.  "Why is she so small?" people always ask.  Except for people that know the breed.  I've been approached more than once by different older gentlemen who tell me "I/we/my friend had a bitch just like that when we were in [insert war here]."

Everyone asks my daughter if she just rescued her, poor thing was starved!

People have a strange notion that overfeeding a dog is loving them, but keeping them in working shape is abuse.  Working for a Vet I've seen 25lb Schipperke, 75 lb Beagles... 35 lb Doxi's... and the owners wanted Rymadyl because they seemed to have difficulty walking and wanted to medicate them for pain.  Often they were quite insensed when it wasmentioned that reducing the weight by 1/3-1/2 would do more good for the dog than any kind of medication.  So it's not just breeding for BIGGER that's the issue, it's letting a normal 95lb dog end up weighing 120lbs or more and watching them waddle down the street.

LOL that's great SitasMom! That's happened to me in Petco before...I just tell them "no thanks, I don't hate my dog". Sometimes they even get it!

Sounds like the problem may not necessarily have been the size of her dog but the size of her ego...what a jerk.

Everyone who "knows" german shepherds says Lukas is small. (I think he's just not as tall as they expect) and everyone who does not know them thinks he is a giant among dogs. He's average weight for his age, from what I've read.

I get people pushing science diet, and bill jack on me all the time. There are certain places we go like feed stores where they recomend things like Taste of the Wild. I prefer going there. :)
