48"x48"x24" high with a 48"x48"x24" feeding area and wall extensions up to 36"??

Is 48"x48" too big, to small or just about about right?

my old boxes ( homemade) were 42x48, which was big enough even for a litter of 12.  now have a durawhelp, 48x48, good size for GSD.  i did not buy the play area extension, as my pups move out of the whelping box at about 2 weeks.  then it's into a large 'figure 8' shaped inflatable kiddie pool with dog towels on the floor of it.  lots of room to walk & play, plus the sides are like built-in pig rails.  around 4 weeks, they go into an indoor pen with a piece of vinyl flooring underneath and a newspapered potty area.  they also get a vari-kennel (no door) for sleeping.  works great!

haven't seen the wall extensions, but would not bother.  if the pups could get over the 24 " height, they would be way too big & active for the whelping box anyway.
