What is the average price for stud fee's to VA dogs?

by SitasMom on 12 September 2009 - 02:09

I have a feeling it depends on the bitch to an extent.

If you have a VA bitch that is titled and has certified hips, elbows and has had very nice pups, the fee just might be lower then an un proven bitch.

What say all y'all?

The "average" stud fee for a VA dog seems to be running between $1000. and $1500.  Most VA stud dog owners do not breed to an untitled bitch, although exceptions seem to be made on occasion.

You think, I was offered about half that the other day..when checking on a VA-2 IOP-3 SVV-3 bitch with "A" hips and elbows that has proven her self..............must be the economy!

There is no set stud fee, it depends solely on the owner of the dog. Remember that stud fee should be 1/3 the selling price of a puppy otherwise it is not profitable for you if you get a small litter

1/3 the price of a puppy?? OMG!...It has cost us $1000 per stud fee, and the prices of our puppies are $1000 to $2000.
When we send a female to Germany to be bred...(which costs a small fortune$$)......the puppy price MAX out at $2500.  No wonder I have to keep my "day job".

I always thought it was   the  average cost of one pup.

by crazydog on 13 September 2009 - 15:09

Giving a puppy or a payment equal to a puppy is generally a loss of 1 & half puppies to a breeder. remember, the breeder has to feed, vaccuinate, tattoo, register the litter. All this cost money. I am just talking abiut been fair.

Like I always say......if you breed for the right reasons.....you "almost" always  lose money.

I understand it to be a fee agreed on by both parties, or the first pick puppy, or the price the stud dog owner gets for his pups, has nothing to do with the price the owner of the bitch gets for his or her pups.
