Two Moons

by Two Moons on 11 September 2009 - 19:09

She's 16 weeks old and was fed last night around 7:00, this morning she had thrown up a portion of undigested food overnight, and crapped out the rest looking like a cow pie.   Other stools from overnight were normal and firm.
Then after some moving around and water she threw up several times, the usual slime and what you'd expect but then two times the slime had a red tinge to it (blood?).  No blood in stools.
I looked her stools over and found nothing out of the ordinary other than the one cow pie.

I'll get her to the vet but thought I'd put this out here anyway.

Have considered poison, wondered about Parvo, also remembering all the crap she digs up and chews on including roots sticks and insects.

I'm stuck wondering and watching until I can see the vet,
Any ideas?

Moons.

Moons,

Did you take her temp?  Parvo has a very MEMORABLE odor!  Was the blood a bright red or look like???

She's not warm and no rigidity in abdomen,
I can't say anything smelled any different but then again it was a strong odor when I hosed it down.
The mucus had red in it , wasn't dark, just red.
She deffinately doesn't feel well, laying in the dog house now.

I hope the puppy gets better fast.  It is heartbreaking to see helpless dogs feel so ill and not be able to help them.

I remember when I got my dog her puppy shots and the vet gave her all of them PLUS Revolution Plus worming medicine.  On a thursday.  Friday night, no appetite.  All weekend she didn't eat, barely moved, had diarrhea.  I thought she was going to die.  Called the vet and he said probably just allergic to it.  Next time she got her shots, he included something for allergies and she did fine.  Still, I will never get shots, wormer, and Revolution all in one trip again.

From the only time I was exposed to parvo I can confidently tell you that cleaning up the mess won't get rid of the smell.  Not sure if it stuck to the dog or my nose.

Sure hope it turns out to be minor issues caused my misadventure.  She sound like a fun little girl!

If you don't have that knock you thru the wall smell that's a makre with Parvo consider the Corona (sp) virus... either way I'd get her in to a vet ASAP for fluid support and antibiotics.  Vickie's said exactly what I was going to about the odor thing. Parvo has a smell that  wreaks of death.

Even if she got hold of something that upset her tummy she may need fluid support.  Best of luck!  Ikon and I will have our fingers/paws crossed for you and her.

She's drinking but just wants to rest, some tummy growling.
Hasn't thrown up anymore at least not in the last four hours or so.
Just watching her, can't get into the vet till tomorrow morning, hoping its just something she ate and tomorrow she'll be better.
Damned dogs are as bad as kids sometimes when it comes to worrying.

Thanks,
She's been doing well until this.    Growing like a weed and learning all the bad habits of the others here.
Digging, barking, and begging..lol
We were on our way to the vet to get her shots when I decided to turn back for home, she threw up on my truck seat.
I'll have to send you a picture soon.

Brent.
