Has anyone used Leventa (liquid form) or Soloxine (pill) with positive results with their dogs who have been diagnosed with hypothryoidism? My now 7 year old female was diagnosed in 2004 and her T4 has been "within normal limits" but just not consistent. Fluctuates anywhere between 2.1 early on in the diagnosis to the high end outside of the normal range recently to 4.8 and 5.0.
Her coat is dull, coarse, dry and thin. She has hyperpigmenation along her spine. In a nutshell I just don't think she looks like she should. It could also be from her inhalent allergies but maybe the root of her other issues is this stupid thyroid problem?!?! She's on a generic thyroid pill and I'm having difficulty getting my vet to try another med for whatever reason - even though I don't care about the expense of the "name brand" med vs the generic. I have made an appointment with another vet to get a fresh/new perspective on the situation though and additional testing.
Just curious how others have fared with regards to their hypothryoid dogs.

Can you list the name of the dog food brand that you're feeding your female? The dry, coarse, dull and thin could be the result of the food that you're feeding her. I could remember when Jake's coat was dry, brittle and was falling out when I was feeding him Nutro Max.

The vet we're going to has had great results with the Leventa (liquid). I'll get her take on the differences. I'm hopeful we're heading down a better road for her.
My main concern on the generic form that she's always been on (as with human grade form) that sometimes the generic lacks a component or two in the chemical make up thus is not as effective as the "name brand" per se. This is exactly what happened to my husband with his thyroid issue. Insurance would only pay for the generic version so we opted to pay out of pocket for the "name brand" and whaddya know...he's feeling better and bloodwork is within normal limits!!!

I have a dog that's been on 0.8 mg of Soloxine for about 6 years now and he's doing fantastic (sp.) he too had an extremely dull coat and was loseing hair and gained about 20lbs. He's 60lbs at a good weight now but he was weighing in at 80lbs and despite dieting and excerseing nothing brough it down. He aslo had doggie ADHD. Now's he's healthy with a shiny coat, a good weight and has an attention span longer than 5 seconds!!!! Good luck!!!!
