I have a nice younf bitch who will be turning 3 years old in a couple of months.
I have tried in her last season (3rd one) to mate her however, even though she would let the male mount her, as soon as the male would try to penetrate she seemed to be in pain and then she was laid back. This went one from day 9 of the season until
Her vulva in normal condition is what I would say a a quite small one. When she is in season, it becomes swollen but still is only almost half the size of my other bitch (who has had already 2 litters).
I do not know if this is nature's way to warn me about something however, has anyone heard of this situation before and is there a way to tackle this?
Thanks in advance anyone who is willing to offer past experiences.

Best advise I can give is this; take her to the vet and have her checked out. There could be blockage or a medical problem that needs to be looked at. Anything else would be just guessing.

I agree with EK you need to get her checked out and see what is going on. However just to let you know that I have a female who fits exactly the description you describe. The first time she was bred (at 3 years) it was with an experienced breeder helping and he told me she was very difficult but did manage to breed, however she did not get pregnant that time. I tried many times with my own (big) male and no luck, though she was always very willing. She did later breed naturally witout help with two different males, but always yelled at the moment of penetration. She is 6 and has had only two litters, both by C-section, most of the time even if she manages to breed she does not get pregnant. Her vulva does not swell very much. She does have a slight vaginal thickening but I was told it was not sufficient to affect her breeding. Should have had a more thorough investiagtion done...

another thing is she may be small back there and i think you should try a smaller male with her,
your other males may be too big for her.
i know a friend that has a female that is reg. size , but she is just small in side.
it cant hurt to try a smaller male.
my females first time it was like that, and then she was fine.
my female felt like she got raped her first time.
its scarey for them.

make sure it is a stable experienced stud, you may also be off with timing, my damn went thru 3 studs until she found one she would let breed, she was 3 by then, so I bought him. The first time takes a gentle male and once she breeds the first time then you will have a hard time keeping them apart, and leave them alone. My damn wont breed in daylight or with anyone around. 9 days is not long enough as she may not be ready and your missing it, 2 weeks is were I would go but would wait 5 days from onset, Its all timing.
