Vom Mager

My female slice her back pad horizontally.  It is not bleeding but she won't leave it alone.  I have been keeping neosporin on it ,  covered and antibiotics. question is:  is it better  to cover it or let the air get to it?  Any help would be appreciated.

she might be licking it due to the neosporin.
I would flush with water and make sure there is not any debris, such as dirt or glass in it.
Then if you have to get a head plastic e-collar sold at many petstores so she can not get to it.
That way she can stop worrying about it and it can heal.
I say just put a thick cotton sock over it with no neo. and in two days it should be fine. The sock can let it breathe and give
the foot some cushion. Or get some wrap that has no glue on it. I buy the foam roll. Wrap it gently and place a piece of tape on the last end. But, without a collar they will chew it off.
If the cut is severe then go to the vet as well.
Keep an eye on it, if there is any redness or swelling take her to the vet.
hope she gets better real soon.

I would flush it out as suggested above and make sure there is nothing in there Then I would get that liquid glue and put that on her pad. It will cover her pad and give it time to heal, plus she can lick it all she wants the glue will remain at least for a few day's. It is perfectly safe to use on her pad as I've used it on my girls pads too. You just have to re-apply it every few day's or so, just keep an eye on it. This is the easiest way I know, and my vet is the one that recommended me using it.

One or the other of my dogs manage to do this all of the time. I just flush it clean with the hose, dry it gently, add neo and apply a sock. I keep the sock in place with horse wrap medical bandages. I know it looks terrible but it will heal suprisingly quick.

I'm going to try the glue if I can find some.

My 17 months old cut hers a week and a half ago. (It bled quite a bit, but only the first day.)  I just cleaned it out and left it alone. (I didn't put anything on it as she would NOT have left it on.) I also kept her off of the gravel as much as possible so as not to make it bleed again. (NOT an easy thing to do here!)

I thought about doing the liquid banndage or super gule (Super Glue can also be used if you don't have liquid bandage.) But I didn't use either as that stuff burns like FIRE when you appily it, and I knew there ws NO WAY I could do it alone and not end up with things stuck where they shouldn't be!  (I used liquid bandage on myself ONCE.  It burned SO BAD I never used it again.)

She licked it some (But not obsessively) but in a few days it was healed up just fine.

Happend to a dog I had once. took it to the vet, he cleaned it and glued it together and told me to keep the dog quite for a week. It worked great, no Elizabathen collar, no liking, and practically no care on my part. The hardest part was keeping her quiet, but he gave me enough doggie downers to keep her quiet for a few days.
