I think we need our own version of the Wertmessziffer DDR rating system -- but for OT threads.

I suggest that the thread begin with its own rating code:

1st digit: 1 = right wing, 2 = centrist, 3 = left wing.  Refers to the thread creator and the political impetus behind the thread.

2nd digit.  1 = intend to be cynical, close-minded, and coarse, so only jump into this thread if you agree with pretty much all threads generated by the political POV of the 1st digit, or if you want a mud wrestling in ad hominem attacks, 2 = want a balanced response and hope to learn something, everyone is expected to be respectful, 3 = want to encourage political opponents to strongly attack position, looking for vigorous but honest give and take.

3rd digit. 1= topic is meant to deride someone or some value that others hold dear, 2= topic is meant to commemorate someone or some value that others hold dear, 3 = thread creator is honestly looking for opinions about the merits of the topic.

So, for example,  a poster who wishes to honor a fallen GOP stalwart might be 112 or 122, with the former discouraging disparaging remarks about the fellow.  A PETA supporter noting another case of animal abuse might be 311 or 321, with the latter actually looking for feedback.  That would could even be 323, if the person is honestly asking for opinions about the case or what might be done about it.

I know that if I read an OT subject line with the code 111, I would saty clear and not waste my time.  Others may feel the same way about 111's or 311's.   But I would be happy to jump into 123 or 133, even though the creator has begun with a position unlikely to be my own.

I think the system should be:

OT Politic - if there is one on the first page of the forum - no more allowed

OT Funny - up to 3 on the first page - then no more

OT - announcements - births deaths of non dog related people - one per page - additional dead folks can just be added to the same OT thread.

But I'm not king of the universe so I'll just have to spam the politic threads with poo, LOL

MVF I think that is an excellent idea.   Luvdemdogs, I also like your poo idea, and I think that if someone starts an OT topic but neglects to include the appropriate rating as outlined by MVF, said post must be immediately spammed and bombarded with multiple  poo pictures!!!!!!

How bout just a counter, either thumbs up or down.

While I like the thumbs up/down idea Moons, I really think MVFs suggestion allows for more detail.

Randy we read your above post the first time you posted it on the thread you started that Oli pulled.  You are mad because Oli pulled your thread, we get it, but that doesn't give you license to have a temper tantrum and spam other threads with this nonsense.

Or how about if you want to debate politics, go to a damn politcal board instead of a dog board.

Again, www.arguewitheveryone.com

Making aliases just so you can spew political opinions on a freakin' dog message board makes you one hell of a loser in my book. If you don't have the balls to go talk this stuff on a current events board, at least grow a pair and use your actual name. Congratulations on being a pansy.

If a thumbs up or down is too simple then perhaps a brief critique in your owns words would be more detailed.
Spelling, presentation, correct facts or total propaganda, language and punctuation.

I think if you really want to rate a thread either post to it or ignore it.
Let the numbers speak for the thread.
