For those of us in our later years theres a gsd in our heart. The dog that trotted along beside us as we rode our bikes around the neighborhood. The dog that accompanied us and our friends and their dogs on our daily activities. The dog that saw you off to school everyday and met you when you came home. The dog that was happy just being with you, your best friend and companion. The dog that was loyal, protective, trustworthy, obedient, loving and a member of the family. The dog who loved you more then he loved himself. Not the dog likely to ever be a champion show dog, not the dog to win a schutzhund competition.I know some of these dogs still exist, but I wonder for how long? Who breeds this type of dog? Showline, working line, bybs, hobby breeders, commercial breeders, puppy mills, friends and neighbors.Who steps up to make sure that this dog lives forever, after all he has no real dollar value. This dog will be etched in my memory when all the great show and working dogs have slipped from my mind                                  Michael

Every one of my German Shepherds were as Michael speaks of .  Are they the most awarded with titles or ribbons from SCH Shows or BEAUTY PAGEANTS(Conf. Shows). That means nothing to me,  and that does not make my dogs inferior to anyone elses dog.  As long as they are with me, that is all they care about.

Lexie - 11yrs old.
Laser - 3 1/2 yrs old.
Carla - 7months old.

This is the only breed for me.

Part of owning a dog is not to make a dog like human but to become like dog yourself!!!!

Let the GSD of the world rule!!!!

cheers

Yes, my sweet Schatzie will live in my heart forever. I got her back in 1968 when I was alittle girl and she was my best friend until she died at 13 years old. I'll never forget her. I don't know if her lineage was good or not, but she was the best dog I could've ever asked for. Then there was my  late W. German Showline GSD, Bruno, who died in 2007 at age 14.  Although he had superb bloodlines, from the perspective of the Schutzhund and show world he was just average, but in my mind and heart he was the smartest, most amazing cpmpanion and best friend in the world. I think he could actually read my mind. Now I have my new sweet rescue LC GSD girl, Shelby. I must admit she doesn't seem as smart as Schatzie or Bruno, but she has other very special qualites. Throughout my adult life I have had other breeds of dogs (mostly rescue dogs or dogs unwanted by other people), but for the remainder of my life I'll never have any kind of dog other than a GSD! They are truly the best! Whether showlines or working lines, excellent pedigree or mediocre bloodlines, they are still the most intelligent, loyal, versatile, intuitive breed in the world. JMHO!

I used to have one when I was 4 years old and now after twenty five years I own a puppy.
What you describe is typical of what I was searching for when I bought Sky. A companion, a friend and a protector.
