Of course the outcome is what you are looking for, some say good coats, etc. How about steady energy level, not highs and lows, etc weight maintenance??

Yes, MERA does come from Germany. I am in the UK and initially used it as it was the food the breeder used. I used to buy it direct from the them.......Tramella in the UK. I suspect that they started to import and sell it as a side line, Tramella have a pretty good reputation in the UK as one of the better breeders, their animals always do well in shows and " Tramella Orange" ( I think I got his name right) is in the running to win B.O.B at Crufts later this year. Our last two GSD's are from them. Both great dogs so I had no problems in being advised by them. At the time they told me that they often go to Germany and were very impressed with a couple of dogs they saw there. On enquiry they were told that they were fed on MERA so they started to use it themselves.
I didn't use it for long though........our first Tramella dog "Jago" ate it at first but went off it after a couple of years. He did pretty well on it at first though, weighed in at about 105 lbs when he was 3 yrs. Good coat and condition and good energy level too. Tried a few other brands here in the UK; Hills, James Wellbeloved, most of the top name premium foods ( NOT IAMS or EUKENABA ) at some time or another before settling on Salters Adult Maintenance which I feed to our latest GSD "Viggo". he is now 2 y.o and is fine and healthy.
I rate MERA as a decent dry food......can't really say anything bad about it.......but I would not rate it as one of the best in my opinion. It's not a bad price and if your dog likes it, is thriving, healthy and gaining the right amount of weight then why not stick with it.
I never just feed only dry food though. i always add some gravy, half a tin of Butchers of some Naturdiet maybe or bits of meat/chicken to his meals for a bit of variety. Some people might disagree with that.....they are entitled to their opinion I suppose. I have owned dogs for 50 yrs and none of them have died from malnutrition so I guess i must be doing something right.

Oats i am okay with , my Pup IZZY is being reared on Acana large breed Puppy food, the same firm as Orijen from Canada, human consumption food goes into it and all ingredients are grown or reared in Canada
No exquonixins etc may not be spelt right'. no unwanted fillers of grains which can harm the dog long term, but everyones choice it has to be and in this day and age we all have to watch the feed bill for both Dogs and ourselves, well we do so really the Guys can only buy what they can afford it do
