My three year old male has just started limping. He was outside in the fence for most of the day since it was nice out and we happened to notice he wasn't putting his left paw down. I brought him back in and he will put it down to walk, but it is an obvious limp. He'll hold it up if he's just standing, though. I checked his nails and pads, nothing out of the ordinary. He isn't cooperative when it comes to handling his paws. He thinks you want to play. He's still moving around like he usually does, and still wants to play. It's Saturday and the vet is closed, so I won't be able to go until Monday. If it stays like this that is what I'm going to do. I just hope it's something that can easily heal. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if it gets better on its own until Monday.
Note: He's never showed pain or discomfort in his hind end before, so I really don't know what it could be. No whining, no signs of real pain that I have noticed.
I checked again and it may just be my paranoia, but his achilles tendon feels a bit slack compared to the right leg. Even when he's laying down and both legs are in the same position. I'm going to go out of my mind.

Don't worry until the vet has a look at your dogs leg. Keep him quiet, let him favor the leg, see the vet as soon as possible.
All will work out well.

Don't panic, rest him as much as possible - find other ways to provide mental stimulation for a couple of days so that he rests (always easier if the dog is crate trained I think). It could be anything, e.g. a simple strain. Best wishes

I agree, keep him quiet for now and I bet by tomorrow he will be back to normal.

Well he's still limping, but luckily he's not trying to rip and tear all over the place. Whatever it is, I don't think it's going to go away on its own, at least not before tomorrow. If it doesn't, off to the vet he goes. I hate seeing my baby like this.

He went to the vet and he has torn or strained a ligament. No playing, no out in the fence without a leash, no nothing for 3-4 weeks. He doesn't need surgery yet, and won't so long as he behaves.

Kennel time for him. And see what he does in the morning.. I hope he just tweaked a muscle...
GOOD LUCK and keep us informed..

I had a dog that tweaked his stifle, by chasing a ball on wet grass. It's hard to keep a bouncy one quiet and resting.

I am so glad you have your answer, now after the 3-4 weeks of rest, please have your vet suggest a rehab faciltiy for your dog.
I do not know where you live but it seems that alot of the vet schools have rehab techs now. This will help with the success of bringing you dog back to full potential.
Always,
Cee
