Okie Amazon

W ent to Lawton to pick up a returned puppy yesterday, (divorce situation). Very surprising. We had sold this girl at 8 weeks for a discounted price because she was so small (half the size of her brothers and sisters) and now she's the biggest girl of all! Not fat either; taller, longer and heavier boned!  She really is gorgeous. (I'll post some pics of her as soon as I can)

When she was born, I thought something was wrong with her because she looked like a mouse next to her normal sized siblings. Had her checked out; heart was good, couldn't find anything wrong, just tiny. She was a scrapper, though. Got right in there and fought for her share of the titty and did fine. Just little. (We named her "Bitsa")

She is in very good physical shape, but they obviously haven't done ANY thing else. Hasn't been in a car, hasn't been walked on a leash, hasn't been played ball with, ect. Luckily though, she is very people-friendly and though they said she was "dog-aggressive", that has not proved to be the case. We took one of our mellowest females out with her and a friends two Goldens yesterday afternoon for a swimming session. She didn't want to swim, but she did race around and initiate play with Dareya and the Goldens.

I think she'll be just fine. We'll work on building some ball drive and go from there.

Here she is at 3 weeks:

And at 7 weeks:

Very cute, but serious face!

I don't know if she remembers us, or just is so happy to be having attention from SOMEbody, but she hasn't shown any signs of anxiety. Good house manners, obviously well house-broken; perfectly happy to snooze at your feet.

hats off to you, okie.  breeders should always be willing to take the dog back.  sounds like she was definately worth saving.  hope you will be successful in re-homing her.

She looks sooo tiny at 3 weeks of age. What a cutie pie :-)
I have heard that the smallest pups are usually the biggest when they are all grown up.

She is 10 months and weighs 75 pounds!!! She could probably stand to lose 4-5 pounds, but you can easily feel ribs, although you can't see them. Her coat is mega-thick and nice, though we did have to take the furminater to her to stop some of the stress shedding.

Maybe I am too outspoken , but it sounds like this dog could've been placed in a better situation by the breeder." No walks on leash , no car rides , no ball playing". CAREFUL screening for potential owners is the responsible thing to do.At lesast you took the pup back and will work with her. better luck in the future.

Unfortunately, despite the best screening, things happen. We certainly could not foresee a divorce in this family's future, or how their circumstances would drastically change.  I think, all in all, we do a pretty good job. Out of four Doberman litters, and two GSD litters, we have had two pups (counting this one) that we have taken back.  So from 32 pups, I think a return rate of 2 is not bad.
