Hello to all!!

I live in Cleveland Tennessee and Im in the search to buy chicken neck and backs in my area and have been unsucessfull.  I am close to the Georgia state line, so I am willing to travel up to an hour to get it if needed to.  I am wanting to buy bulk and inexpensive meat.  I thank you if you have any information for me. Thank you.

Have you checked to see if there is an Oma's Pride distributor near you?  Here is their product list:  http://www.omaspride.com/products.htm  I get their bulk boxes of whole bones and I buy frozen tripe from them too.  Check out their distributor page to find out who is near you and who will order the whole bones for you.  www.omaspride.com/Retailers.htm

I really liked the 40lb cases of chicken frames and necks I used to get from my Bravo distributor, but she is no longer doing the whole bone thang.  As a matter of fact, I was unable to find another Bravo distributor willing to do the whole bone thang anymore.  I guess the mixes are too lucrative to bother with the bones.   You can check to  see if there is a Bravo distributor too, maybe you will have better luck than I :  www.bravorawdiet.com/bravoretailers.html

There are also various BARF groups you can join that are in Tennessee, for instance: pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/tntripe/  AND pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/MDTN_BARF/  AND   http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BARFmemphis/summary  They should be able to provide local info on purchasing bulk bones.  There are many BARF groups in Georgia too like:  southeasternnaturalrearing.com/suppliers.php.

In my part of the country I can order bones in bulk from the local butchers and some of the supermarkets too, so if you haven't already checked with your area butchers, it's something you might consider.

Sue is right Oma's Pride is excellent.  Here necks and backs cost about .40 cents per lb.  I can buy leg quarters for .65 cents a lb, so I don't bother with necks.  The leg quarters have a lot more meat. :)   I buy them by the 40 lb box.  I can also find leg quarters on sale periodically at the grocery store for about .35 cents per lb and then I stock up.  I also buy meat by the case at Sam's club.  I buy 80/20 chop meat for about $1.50 per lb, I buy 80 lb cases of it.  It comes in 8 10 lb logs.  I freeze that as well as the chicken.

FWIW,

Jim

Call your local meat processor or wholesaler, see if they will order you some.  My mom & pop grocery stores will order cases of them and turkey necks, just call and ask.  I prefer turkey over chicken, less fat and more meat for the same price usually.
