Tharina

 Dear All

Need a bit of advise as to when seriously start training with my puppy.  She is now 10 weeks and some Schutzhund schools here says 12weeks, other say 16weeks.  At home I do the basic sit command at this stage and a bit of "attack" work where she has certain toys that she is allowed to play with then.  She basically just grabs them, a bit of tug and war, then I let her win and make a fuzz about her, she will then trot around with her head in the air, very cute.  We go for walks almost daily and at this stage I am doing a lot of socialising with her and she is really doing well in this area, even though she thinks everyone was put on this planet to entertain ans serve her :)  At this stage no serious training and no real bite work, all just fun and games, but I would like to know when will be a good age to start taking her to a schutzhund school.

Kind regards
Tharina

The day you put your habds on her you started training her, you have to let her tell you when she is ready for advancement there are so mant things you can do at this age Introducing them to different experiences just remember everything must be a positive at this age. I personely like fishing for puppies get a 6 foot drop lash whip from your local TSC(or whats local for you) cost is about 16.00 dollars get a nice peice of burlap tie it on the popper and go fishing let her chase and follow and jump with big circles and back and forth after she shows good intensity for the chase slow the movement down just enough to let her catch it and praise the crap out of her for catcjing the rabbit. I love puppy games.

Thanks Bob, will definately try that with her, as she really love games and she already bites like a little crocodile.  She is very clever and picks up on stuff so quickly, I got her at just under 8 weeks, in 3 days time she realised the idea of potty training and started to wake me up during the night when she wanted to go.  She still has an accident every now and again, but she really picked up on it very quickly and are better than I thoght it would be at this age.  Think the fact that I have an older dog helps as she can see the example...

It is just after 17:00 here, so I am off to home, go walk with them a short walk every afternoon, as my older dog is 12years of age and the walking helps to prevent stiff legs.  At least it is finally starting to get warmer here (South Africa) and one of these days I will be able to take the both of them to the park.  Just first want to make sure Gabrielle gets all her parvo and rabies shots, we had a case of rabies here a week or two ago, same area where we live, so I am a bit over cautious!

Thanks for the advise and take care :)
