Silbersee,

The kennel, Von Auerbach, still issues white "green" papers. It is because his female never passed her breed survey 100%. Now once she does pass, anyone that already has a pup from her, can apply for their pink papers. With so many bought titles, I will have to agree with Clifford on this one.

It is nice to have pink papers but I don't think it is in any means something to advertise while trying to sell a pup. The thing that should raise the value is if the breeder already got the AKC paperwork done ahead of time.......too much dreaming.

Hello John Kennedy,
I do not know kennel von Auerbach! If they breed with white (light green) papers consistently, when something is wrong!!! A dog either passes or fails, not 70% or 80%, but passes.
If a female does not pass her breed survey, it can usually be for the following reasons:
- under- or oversize, but if presented that would be an automatic breeding ban
- insufficient courage (which is the reason most of the times), meaning the dog flunks bitework. If that is the case, the owner can present the dog again a year later. If the dog flunks again, it is banned from being surveyed for life.
- dentition, same as size, if presented and the issue is severe enough, there will be an automatic breeding ban.
- failed gun test.
- dismissed due to temperament problems, which could be aggression towards the judge/handler or shyness etc.
- missing DNA
- missing show rating, or could not obtain more than an A which means Ausreichend (Sufficient) and is not enough for a breed survey
- elbows are not clean! So far, you only need the elbow stamp for a breed survey but in theory, you could breed with a dog who does not have an ED-rating.
Now, anybody who claims that breed surveys can be bought is dead wrong. It might be easier to obtain a SchH1 on a dog on club fields with a club helper, but breed surveys in Germany are scheduled by the SV and the individual regions and are held with regional helpers. They admit 60 dogs a day. If it exceeds the limit, a second day is scheduled. Surveys are never held in conjunction with a show. That is only done over here. It is a big regional event.
I don't know anybody in Germany who would buy a puppy with white papers, for the simple reason being that the generation afterwards will also get white papers. It has to be two generations of titles and surveys before pink papers are issued. I would never buy a puppy with white papers for that matter!

And to clarify something else:
Pink papers are issued to every puppy, so-called show quality and disqualifying faults, because the parents and grand-parents fulfilled the requirements. That means that pink papers are not obtained on a puppy's merit, but that of the ancestors.
Blue papers, the Körschein, are issued because the individual dog fullfilled the requirements of breeding, as set forth by the SV. That means that blue papers are obtained on the dog's merit and that alone makes this dog very valuable!! Big difference!

Kelly,
I would be very careful if breeders do not identify puppies, either by tattooing or by microchipping. Starting next year, the SV will replace the tattoos with microchips which is going to be a challenge for us here in the U.S. This was decided upon (among other things) in the SV Delegates Assembly earlier this spring. I don't know if you are a member of GSDWorld.net but I had written about all the things that will be implemented next year (permanent identification, honorary judges panel, long stockcoats, etc. etc.). Basically, I roughly translated the two day minutes.
I am going to buy a EURO scanner at the end of next month, when I am in Germany - mental note, have to order it, so it is there when I arrive.
I heard that they come in nice fashion colors!

Robin,
I think you were very thorough, lol.

Hello, I am new here and had a question on pink papers (SV). I bought an imported puppy that came from Germany- reputable kennel and contact in the states. I have been told the pink papers come at about one year (the puppy is about 7 months)- is that true? It seems as though some in this thread received the papers with their dog.

The puppy is from the line of this sire - http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/516718.html

I got an imported puppy last year and needed her papers badly to get her in a show (and because I kept hearing that if I didn't have them "by now", I would probably never get them, which worried me cause this was my first experience with an imported puppy). I did get them, with absolutely no problems, and the importer I got her from was kind enough to make a special trip to the mail to have them overnighted to me as soon as he got them himself. Anyhow, I got the SV pink papers when my puppy turned 8 months old - almost six months to the day from the day I brought her home.

Thank you very much Championl.

I was getting needlessly worried, especially since the breeder/US contact here is very reputable- probably a case of reading too much.

I also was worried since the breeding was not reflected in the database here- but now understand that also takes time.
