Can I register a dog that I don't own? Or do I have to get the owners permission first?

I recently asked the same question and was told YES it is okay to post a pedigree on here of a dog you do not own, As long as you double and triple check that you are posting correct information :) Hope this helps,

First; I think it is advisable to ask the owner/breeder - if they can be contacted. If they cannot be contacted then I personally see no issue registering someone's dog as long as it is done from a CERTIFIED pedigree and not information gathered solely from hand-written notes and the world-wide web.
I have done this for dogs who were missing in the pedigree of some of my dogs. No, I did not ask for permission as these dogs were long gone from this world and I was using certified pedigrees to add them to the database. I also found useful information in the web archives of the G.S.D.C.A. and in the S.V.'s archives.
I should say also that this database needs to be as complete as possible; so that means that all registered GSD's should be here regardless of their "type" or lineage.
One (1) caveat - this is an open database and that causes good and bad points. Any registered user can add or edit a pedigree and therein lies the potential for a problem. So my advice? Try to make contact, and if that is not possible just make sure the information you enter is 100% correct.

Owner? Oh no, why ask them? They’re not important; are they? After all they only ‘own’/ ‘owned’ the dog. I mean you are on the internet one day and you inadvertently stumble across your dogs details with full REGISTRATION number and you think to yourself…..where the hell did they get that from? I didn’t give them that and I certainly didn’t give them permission to add my dog’s registration number to their website and where did they get a certified pedigree from? It certainly is not in the archives of the G.S.D.C.A. or the S.V.
Stolen from somewhere no doubt and added here without PERMISSION.
