Hi. I'm a new member trying to network with as many people as I can. I was trying to reply to someone who had questions about their EPI dog. My adopted/rescue dog that we've had for a year and a half was diagnosed last year, 2008, with EPI. Didn't know what is was then but I sure do now! I don't know about the rest of you, but what a stressful journey I've been on! Not only does my dog have EPI, he has 7 food allergies as well. He is on Natural Balance dry food, allergen free. This might help some of you as well since there is a chance that EPI could have started due to long over due diagnosis of allergies. This food is pricey but nowhere near the cost of Hill's Prescription and you can buy it at pet food stores. The pancreatic enzymes however are outrageously expensive. We can't afford it. It's a struggle every month to figure out how to get these enzymes paid for. I'm constantly calling and/or e-mailing animal organizations for financial aid. Very stressful! I do know there is a site called EnzymeDiane. She orders from American Laboratories in bulk, then re-packages them and ships them. You can get 35.2 oz. for $134.00. I have not been able to try that yet, but we'll see. I've been using PanaKare Plus powdered enzymes for my dog, a 3 yr. old black lab shepherd mix, and they work really well. I've been able to get financial help to get  it but running out of options and his symptoms are back. Anyway, I hope any information I've given helps someone. Anyone with info I'm not aware of would be very appreciated! Help! Thanks.

Hi;  My friend has a bitch, now 5 years, was diagnosed at 1 year with EPI.  Yes she still has to give the enzymes, however EVO (by Natura) less fat really works well for her.  It is a no grain diet and she has put all her dogs on it as well as the bitch with EPI.  This so far is the only thing for her that has worked.  Nanci  Hope this helps.

Hi again, it's Jeebah. Thanks to KrazyBoutk9s for the website and Nans qsd for the EVO suggestion. As for the food, my dog Kane does quite well on the Natural Balance Duck & Potato or the Sweet Potato & Fish, any of them that don't have what he's allergic to is good, it's just expensive. His allergies are: corn, wheat, rice, oats, egg, peanut and yeast. Lucky me! Don't remember how much the EVO is for the quantity I need. As with alot of other things, it's either not enough or too expensive or both!  With the exception of being out of enzymes since Friday and Kane already losing weight again, I had him back up to 96 1/2 lbs. from 64 lbs. last year. This is one of the most difficult and stressful situations I've ever been in. How are the rest of you doing it? Are you able to afford the enzymes all of the time without running out? I don't know if I mentioned in my first posting but, sadly, about 9 wks. ago, I came to the heartbreaking decision to try and find him another home. Other than his EPI, he has some behavior issues as well that we just can't handle anymore. He's even had training. He's sweet and loving but just too, too high energy with very bad habits. I care about him and care what happens to him and who he ends up with. A ranch for this guy would be great and someone who can afford to take care of his condition. Anybody know anybody? Thanks for listening!

Raw pig pancreas, if you can obtain it, liquidised is a good substitute for the enzymes. It is actually the natural source of the dried enzymes you buy. If you are in the UK you can purchase it from Landywoods. Its not a very nice job liquidising it, but it is far more affordable than the enzymes.

To Dingodog, I don't live in the UK. Where else would I get raw pig pancreas, supermarkets maybe? Where do YOU get it? Thanks, Jeebah
