here's the story so far,
i used to feed her TOTW for a while now and thought to change to new food and after half bag of Wellness Core Ocean she started shedding like crazy about a month ago around june end.
i've never saw that much of shedding till now she is 2 1/2 yrs old.
then two weeks ago we did her spay and now she is itching like nuts. i comb her as daily routine and now i found too dry and tons of white flakes in her hair.
i started feeding more chicken fats and salmon but she itches crazy.
i also bought nature's care, moisturing spray to help dry skin.. and sparying as needed.
but i see my dog suffering like crazy of itching....
don't know if this is inregard to food but i just changed to TOTW two weeks ago.
or could it be anaethesia allergy to dog due to spay..................................................
any suggestions would greatly appreciated.
thanks

It can be all those things.. surgery does cause hair to fall out and skin to slough... changing food also does the same thing...
Most dogs need way more essential fatty acids than people suspect.. try Udo's Oil.. I have had very good luck with it...
She is probably blowing her coat as a result and that willt ake some time to resolve..

Oh do I feel for you and your poor itchy dog. My female got dry, flaky skin after she was spayed too. Spaying wreaks havoc on their hormones for while and that could be the cause or your dog's hair loss, dry skin and itchiness. I give my girl a homemade allergy free diet and add Salmon oil and Prozyme to her food. She still has some dryness and itchiness, although much improved. Try adding the Alaskan Salmon oil or another type of oil to her diet and some type of digestive enzyme product such as Prozyme or Nzmyes. It takes a while to help the dryness and itchiness to subside, so you may have to give her something for the itchiness for now. Temaril-P is the one medication that has worked wonders for my dog. It seems to break the itching cycle and then I wean her off of it over a 2 week period. she still has flareups on occasion so I use it every so often. I have found that Gold Bond powder helps a little too for the itchiness. T-Gel shampoo with salicylic acid has also been helpful. Be sure to rinse REAL well. Just know that what has worked for me may not work for you. I always try to go holisitc route first, but with both of my allergy dogs I've had to resort to conventional methods to really stop the itching. My late boy, Bruno was on prednisone (5mg every other day) all of his life to control itchiness. He still lived to be 14 years old, so it is not the worst thing in the world. I realize steroids can cause problems, but it is so upsetting to see them in such distress. Again, I worked with a holisitc vet and tried a very large number of things before using steroids. I hope this helps.

Benadryl can give some itch relief at 1mg per pound. Note that if they've been really itchy and get some relief, they can crash and sleep like a log. I have also had good results with an herbal shampoo that has comfrey and goldenseal in it. I'll try to catch my husband at home and find out the name of it for you. I lathet them up and let the suds sit on them for 10 minutes or so before rinsing.

I ordered mine from Leerburg, but it's probably available elsewhere.
