Can anyone tell me what Hip Status this would be on a GSD?      HD a-Ausland (a6)

Thanks
Tina

Ausland means "outland".  a6 means that the dog has a passing hip rating from a country outside of Germany that the SV recognizes.  They do not give a rating (normal, fast normal, etc.) in this instance.

But I thought    A 6 was not passing  according to our rating system....a1 a2 a3 a4   but     a6 is far down the scale...also I have seen many dysplastic dogs listed under HD   so doesnt mean they passed   is just means they are what they are...do not know about passing with an   A6

Surely there is a comparison sheet somewhere that shows this.

There is a comparison sheet and a6 is just what GSD4dogs said.

Here is one site I found via Google search.  I'm sure there is a more official one, I just don't have time to search atm.

From what I understand (and I am far from an expert or brainiac and my German is not the best) a6 means foreign and is not a designation of hip rating.

Thanks Mindhunt:   That is a very good explanation..I had read it not here, but someplace else, when we had a pedigree discussion last year on here...but her site is good   copy and saved....  hard to remember all the german meaning on hips and what they all mean..

Exactly what GSD4dogs said.   Has no comparison to the OFA standard in any way.

But can we assume this dog was at least passing on a Hip Rating (one would assume)?

Thanks for the help

WHO KNOWS IF WE CANNOT HAVE A COMPARISON...WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN     IF A6 IS PASSING IN WHATEVER COUNTRY   FOREIGN MEANS......WHAT IS FAILING??????

I HAVE SEEN MANY DOGS BRED ON HERE WITH THE WORD   hd:   DYSPLASTIC   and bred and in pedigrees....??

I wondered the same thing...I ask about this last year and got the same answer....  A6 means same as A stamp in Germany    well why the 6  why not   A1  or a2   .

Sure is a long way to 6....from number 1..????

a6 is the SV notation, and only signifies the dog passed in another country; does not give the rating.

a very well-known dog is a6, i own a granddaughter of this dog and wanted more info as i planned  breedings.  i contacted his breeder (also very well known) to find out the original rating.    it was explained that the a stamp was done in italy.  she told me the italian rating, and said that when ownership of the dog came back to germany, a6 is what the SV used even though the dog was re-xrayed/re-evaluated in germany as a1.

the point is, the a stamp was given in another country, and a6 is how the SV reflects this on their documents.  this differentiates a german evaluation from another governing body's evaluation.
