I have used it, it really helps with dry skin especially, but I no longer use it as the food I am feeding gives my dogs great skin and coat. VItamin E is good, too.

Yes it gives a very nice coat, and soft/supple skin.  I've used it with great results.

Might i suggest that you use it spareingly...also not every day...alternate it with Salmon oil and Krill Oil.... also a tsp or two of  EXTRA virgin Olive oil in the food once a day also....

Flax seed oil can be overproductive if use largely so I suggest you use it sparingly and alternate.

Flax seed oil is really quite amazing when you first use it but don't think it works all the time.I find it effective during the first three months uf use.Others are also good like Vitamin E , Kelp powder, Zinc and Biotin but if you feel your GSD has sensitive skin keep away from beef based products and go with chicken and chicken fat.Its really obvious that foods that build muscle(assuming you work your Shepherd intensively) do not help coat and those that promote growth of coat do not encourage great muscle mass and definition.
Coming back to your issue about Flax Seed oil please go ahead and use it preferrably the cold pressed version.I know of people who actually get the flax seed itself and grind a little everyday and mix it into their dogs' food and claim they get amazing results especially increase in the black areas.Use the oil and try adding some of the Vitamin E,Kelp , Zinc and Biotin.I hope to hear about your results in the near future.

Flax oil may be ok for some dogs and not so good for others according to the article above.   Flax, flaxseed, flax oil are also called linseed, linseed oil and is found in many (if not most) dog foods these days.  If your dog is one that can't convert it to the correct form to balance out the Omega 6 fatty acids found in the food, your dog will have skin/hair problems and it would probably get even worse if you add additional flax oil.   In that case, you'd be better off adding fish body oils instead since they are already in the form dogs can utilize as Omega 3's.

Thanks Diane , as usual you are correct....That is the reason I made the suggestion not to use it regularly.

Krill oil has come to the forefront now as they believe it to be more pure than some fish oils because of how contaminated fish are beginning to show...DE  , raw meat and eggs, chicken, liver etc are all so good instead of cramming extra supplements into a dog....Krill , salmon oil and extra virgin olive oil already come in a safe form...and dry skin is a problem with humans as well as people..Olive oil, extra virgin, not the compound ones...are used on bald heads, elbow, and the Greeks and the italians are so much healthier in the digestion system because XTra virgin OO is there main stay of eating...cook, eat and massage with it...  add a little lavender to it and walllaaaaah...!!!

Hope you are all ok up your way..Good to hear you post....
Keep cool as I know it is hot up your way also...
