Anyone else had problems with rusting on Priefert Kennels?  I have seven year old kennels and they are dangerous for the dogs now because of so much rusting and corrosion causing many sharp edges.  Most of the welding is rusted away and the pipes on the gates are rusted through.  I've been emailing the company for three years since the problems started and they haven't done anything except make a few hollow promises.

Priefert has no warranty on their kennels anymore, but when I purchased mine, they still had a 10 year warranty advertised on them.  I have to replace my kennels now and I won't be going with Priefert again.

Don't go with options plus!  I bought the platinum series about 5 yrs ago.  1 yr warranty, started rusting at about 1 1/2 yrs into it.  Kennels are under a lean to with a concrete slab with shadecloth around 3 sides because of the heat here in Fla.  Already removed 2 panels that were pretty bad, so instead of 4 kennels, I have 3 now.  Other panels are coming undone as well.  I'm just going to go to tractor supply and get a 5x10x6 they have there for 299 and slowly start replacing them all. I was NOT happy with options plus kennels at all.

I have seen these kennels rusting at the farm store before they are even sold.  They look nice, until you get up close and see their vulnerability to the elements.  Methinks a redesign is needed.

I'm still looking, who else makes kennels that are NOT chain link?

But 4 at 299 comes to about 1200 bucks, is still less than the 1580 cost of option plus's cheap kennels. To replace with what I have would cost me 2500 (50 del fee).  So cheap ones at 299 that last maybe 3-4  yrs, just about what I got out of these high end ones I bought.

i got a cheaper galvanized welded wire one I bought at menards .. was probably around $300  It ise about 6 years old sitting outside on a concrete slab.  Still working fine.  My dog has broken out many kennels and these have done good especially for the price.. don't look as nice but havent broken either

Another option may be to contact a professional fence company.  Often they have heavier gage chain link with tighter mesh which makes it more difficult for a dog to chew out out of..

Best of luck  Jeff

I don’t have any experience with Priefert Kennels but have had Options Plus installed about 4 years ago (Ultra Series) and totally love them. They held up very well to the elements and dogs and still look very attractive. This summer I added two more runs and went with Ultra series again with no hesitation. We opted for their new isolation panels this time, will see how these hold up. They look great.

Customer service was perfect, they went above and beyond. We ordered their roofing system as well, and it sat unpacked in the garage for a couple of months before we got to installing it. When we opened it, we saw that every piece of roofing was damaged during shipment (we did not move the boxes after their arrival at all), and they sent us a new set free of charge! How many companies would do this nowadays? Once you signed for it, you are on your own! Or you have 7 days or so. Thumbs up Options Plus!

Yuliya, are you in a humid, hot area?  Mine didn't hold up.  My friend got the level down from the Platinum (mine) and her's did the same thing.

I'm in GA. Maybe it's because of the square tubing in Platinum? In Ultra it's just round galvanized tubing. It has some minimal rusting on mine after 4 years where the dogs rub against it, but I never did a thing about maintanance, I'm sure they are supposed to be oiled in some way periodicaly. But even so, the black wiring looks just as good as when we got it, and those few areas with rust stains are just cosmetic. Because they are on the inside of the kennel, they are not visibla from the outside, so overall kennels look really good and I get compliments about them from many visitors.

Must be.  I have whole corners gone from rust.  Panels seperating from the frame.  Connectors at the bottom are rusted out to where you can break it with a hammer.  Even some of the connectors at the top are rusted.

We have 2 generations of Priefert kennels (before building anew with Mason SS).  The first generation Prieferts are seriously rusted (no longer safe and out of service).  But,  I would not fault the manufacturer.  Rather, we were not aware that bleach, which we used to use daily as a disinfectant, will corrode all metals, including stainless steel.  The second generation Prieferts, which were never subjected to bleach, are in terrific condition, standing in the open, very humid Western PA climate, now 8 years old.  Folks may want to think about what disinfectants have contact with the metals on a regular basis.

I do, however, have problems with the Priefert design for safety reasons (hence, the decision to build new with Mason kennels).
