Hello everyone. Im new to this forum and look forward to speaking to you all. I would like to have an opinion on my dogs pedigree. Depending on how she turns out on hip and elbow  x-rays, I'm planning on breeding her. She's a pretty good dog. Some pretty knowledgable trainer and handlers have liked watching her work. She has her short coming and I really want to improve on those. For instance, her bark and hold is not consistant, in a way of saying the bark itself. Its good for the first 4 or 5 barks then it get choppy. But, her gaurding is good. The grip is full and firm but, I would like to see more intensity.  Any insights would be greatly appreciated. I'm just trying to learn more about the lines and how to improve the breed. Thanks.

Did you get her as a pet dog that you can enjoy or to make money on breeding her?

With all honesty, this is a tough market for puppies and I don't see much in her pedigree that would give her puppies an edge for placement. First two generations nothing interesting. The third back nothing stellar.

Train her and have fun.

If you want to breed shepherds to improve the breed you need to start with a better female and that means investing time and money. You might still be able to get some nice puppies out her purely as pet quality with a spay/neuter contract. I doubt you'll get more than a few hundred for each one. But with overpopulastion and the fact that most German shepherds do not stay in their original homes and are put up for adoption, into pounds, or destroyed, I would advise you against it - for the betterment of the breed.

you have to be careful to not further down-breed her anymore. I dont see a reg # on your girl and neither on her sire. I hope both dogs are registered, before you consider breeding her.

The short comings you say sound more like training related (hold and bark) and can be worked upon. Intensity you will get out of defense drive only. Your girl is fairly young, and her linage suggest more prey drive at the current. You need to give her time to mature more, as well as finding the button that flips her into defense. This instinct can be awoken through correct training through the helper. You may have to take a step back and rethink your strategy together with your training director.

i love troll milinda and the m-pendel bach litter........but the rest of her pedigree is nothing to write home about.  if i were buying this girl with the intentions of breeding her, i would definately take her to a male that is linebred on  fero thru yoschy, rocky etc.

Thanks for the replies. I do have her registered through the AKC but nothing more. Thats why I asked so the more experienced can point me in the right direction. My first mind was to have her as a learner dog and get ready for the better dogs to come. So I think I will stay along that line. Again I appreciate the honesty.

I almost  forgot. I did'nt buy her as pet quality or to make any money. I'm not a stranger to breeding, I'm just learning about  the shepherd lines. I enjoy and respect the working dogs and will love to keep them around if I could help it. They are a working breed and thats what they should be.  She's an honest working dog as well as her mother, father, grandfather, and grandmother. I caught all of them myself and I was convinced they were very strong dogs. The father is registered but im not sure about the mother. I just went solely off of their work ethic. As I said, I need help and guidance as everyone here has had or is getting. I just want to improve the breed not hurt or make any money for breeding the most puppies.
