The vet was very, very doubtful that the breeding (done by AI) would take, and was quite surprised when the ultrasound showed 3 or 4 puppies!
Well, we are now up to 7 puppies, and there seems to be another still in there!
Go Story, Go!
Here's some pictures: http://s14.photobucket.com/albums/a344/Sunsilver/Story%20Has%20Her%20Babies/
(Yes, momma is a Shiloh Shepherd.)
Whe had 3 1/2 hours between pup 1 and 2. Number 2 is the largest at 21.4 oz. and he was stuck like a cork in a bottle. Once he was out, the next ones followed quite quickly, until we had 3 boys and 3 girls. Number 7 came along an hour and a half after we thought we were done, another boy.
And I don't think we're quite done yet!

This is my first time assisting at a whelping, so I'm glad everything has gone pretty smoothly so far.

Well, the vet said there were only 3 or 4, so when we got up to 6, we thought we were done. When we got to 7 we were SURE we were done.
The final count was 9 pups, the last born dead, and the second last very weak. He's being tube fed, as he can't suckle.

Remember the post last week about the dalmatian that was supposed to be carrying 3 pups, and she had 10? I sent that to my friend as a joke!
It very nearly came true...
Anyway, the good news is they had all gained weight at weigh-in this morning, even the smallest girl who was only 8.5 oz. at birth.
Now, excuse me while I go catch up on some missed sleep....

Oh, so sorry to hear the bad news about the last two. I hope the little fellow can pull through. It's too bad the vet couldn't do a better job of "guessing". Sounds like he needs to take a course in reading ultrasounds, eh? Keep us posted on the progress and post more pics!

BTW, the smallest pup was 8.5 oz., and the largest a whopping 20.1! You can see the size difference in the last two photos.
The dead pup would have been the largest girl. She was 17.7 oz.
