Just wondering what you do with your dogs if you've been working, walking or whatever and then all of a sudden you can't do it for a while.  What do you do with your dog/dogs?  And, how are they while they wait for you to get better and resume the life that they had?

Get a wheel chair sit in it  tie them to it and go for a spin around the neighborhood.

They're dogs. They adapt.

My back goes out every now and then and when that happens I'm lucky if I can scuttle down the stairs on my rear. So far I've managed to feed and water my three dogs and let them out into the fenced back yard a couple of times a day. No playing and certainly no walking. Forget working them.

Mostly they snooze. When they see me hobble around with the cane they seem to understand it'll be a different life for a few weeks. They really do adapt.

Hope it's nothing serious you have and that you'll be back on your feet soon.

My son uses his wheel chair...also.

I have never been out of commission but one day and my kids came and fed but no work....I was up the next day contrary to my kids wishes.....

My dogs cuddle up next to me on the sofa or bed till I get better, I have the luxury of turning them out into a huge fenced in yard with a pond in it for them to swim and play...then when dinner time comes they are at the door as I hobble and let them in...feed them and we are all off to bed...I leave the back door wide open so they can come and go at night as they please...let's the nice cool mountain night air in the house and the dogs can go do their business....

Day 1 is ok,
Day 2 is some pacing
Day 3 he starts in on home improvements

I have a big backyard but that's not enough, mine need to work/train, I think it's more about the mental stimulation than the physical exercize.

Pain killers, Lots and lots of them. For me, not the dogs. Am in that situation right now, I slipped a disk. Grin and bear it with the help of my trusty Vicoden. I work them as usual... 30 min to an hour a piece every day. That's probaby no help though, I'm miserable not doing anything and would rather hurt and be productive then not hurt and lay in bed.

I'm fortunate to have a LARGE attached yard for the dogs... so the laundry room gets left open and they have free range for a while.  As others say they adapt... in some cases more than I expect. After a bad accident I had difficulty getting up an down and our rescue Klytie automaticly "bridged" for me... standing in front of my chair firmly on all 4's so I could push up on her back. She did this for the 1st week, until I healed a bit.  Then she returned to being Bev's 24/7 dog.  Don't know if she had been trained at some point or what... but she was a LOT of help to me.  I find that careing for the gang also gets me off my bottom and active more quickly than otherwise.

1) Treadmill
2) Use the sprinkler which gets three things accomplished. Lawn watered, dogs exercised from leaping at the water and dogs cleaner than they have been with all the dust in their coats.
