TITLE YOUR DOGS!!!!!
I thought that I might post some of my thoughts that I am having of late and share with some of you the frustration that I have when cruising through the puppy/breeding pages on this site.
- If you are going to claim that you are breeding dogs for sport or dual purpose and your breeding pairs are not titled you are not breeding working dogs.
- Dog sports have multi phases showing you non titled dogs biting on a tug or a sleeve is not impressive. Any freaking dog can bit a sleeve.
- If you bought a dog from working lines and your not working your dog all you have is a pet with a working pedigree.
- If you are a breeder and you don't have the time to go and join a club, work and title your dogs stop breeding and start training.
- I know the argument "You can buy titles". Yes that is true but how do you know your dog can do the sport of your preference if you are not working it. Giving us pictures of a dog biting a sleeve is again not impressive.
- Saying your dog comes from some great working line and passing your non titled dog off as a working dog is false advertisement. All working Litter's produce dogs that are crappy. You could own crap and be breeding crap!
- I believe the answer is simple. I belong to a high achieving schutzhund club in Canada. We cannot breed our dogs until they achieve the title of Sch 1. If you cannot get a 1 on your dog you cannot breed it.
- By the way a BH title is nothing! That just qualifies you to now run with the big dogs.
I feel better now that i have gotten that off my chest. I submit my thoughts in hopes that you who title your dogs, to keep on keeping on. And for those of you who are breeding non titled dogs quit misrepresenting who you are and what you are breeding. You are pet dog breeders breeding pets and nothing more!I agree with what you say entirely, what you say is correct
I am glad you feel better now
Steve
agree - wish more Schh clubs had the same high standards for their breeder members.

THUMBS UP TO MACON!!!
Maybe that would help some of us rescues out here. And the shelters cut back on the numbers of dogs out there...even though I get some good ones in...
Thanks, Steph

your opinion has merit, with out a doubt.....and i truly respect what MOLLY has to say about breeding/training titles....if a dog is worked in the dicipline of sport or service...yet never officially titled,is that dog any less that any other titled dog...training and trialing is a great accomplisment.but with the vast resourses available currently(internet...yada,yada) i feel many may be misguided as to what constitutes a "suitable" working dog....surely,titles can be bought for a price, marginal dogs can be titled at "midnight trials",surely some will say this is "LAZY MAN THINK",well maybe!but don't discount the breeders(backyard, sideyard, bathroom, basement) who have a "GOOD EYE" for prime breeding stock(not me) and can pick a dog apart with clarity and understanding and are able to decide"BREEDABLE/NOT BREEDABLE"(from a betterment of the breed standpoint)...as i read the original post,i have no doubt that the poster has the GSD'S best intrest at heart....some people just like good, stable, well bred dogs and breed to satisfy themselves...this is how the "everyday joe" can get a quaility dog at a working man's price! thanks, good luck, keep training! roger(vom ost see)home of "A-DINO VOM OST SEE",S-NAVARRE VOM KRAFTWERK,C-DEMERLINA VON SUDLICH PLATZ and "E-LITTER VOM OST SEE".

I know I'm going to catch hell for my next comment but how can breeding titled dogs gaurentee they are going to produce better puppies then untitled dogs.....? BTW I do train & title my dogs. Titles don't make good puppies, good dogs make good puppies. In my pet dog training business I have seen it a hundred times- POS dogs that the owners don't understand why they are have such problems with their dog that came from Schutzhund titled parents.
It's about stacking the odds in your favor. The chances of producing quality working dogs is much higher when breeding dogs who have earned their titles honestly than it is breeding unproven pets. I think most inexperienced people that have problems with their dogs pretty much unknowingly create the problems themselves.
