I know the topic of treating elbow hydromas has been addressed several times. My dog had one at 5 months but it disapeard with treatment. It returned at about 1 year old and I have not been able to completely elimiate it (14 months old now). It's not huge (half of the size of a golfball) but it's noticable. My question is if I show him, what sort of impact would this have on his placement? Would it be considered a disqualifying fault? At this point, I think that even if the hygroma goes away there will still be a larger loose area on the elbow as compared to the other.

I don't know about how the show placement would be affected with the hygroma, but no, there won't be a loose area on the elbow, if the hygroma clears up the elbows should be firm and normal again (from my experience of big ones on both elbows....).

I concur with oso. When they finally go away, you will never be able to tell they were ever there

My boy and I are battling the elbow hygroma as well, his came on at 5 months too it became almost the size of a tennis ball we sat it out for the 3-4 weeks but no difference so Taoo went in to surgery as I was worried about the fluid getting stagnant. It partially came back then went down somewhat I bought a pair of "dogslegs" that seem to help.

I was unsure at how he would go in showing because I didn't want to go to the lengths with out being competitive or I would concentrate on his obedience trials (we will be doing this also anyway) so I waited to see his breeder to get his opinion on how he was developing, his breeder was so happy with him and said  to show him.

he is 8 months old now and his elbow is almost better ...only when I point it out or you feel it can you tell...should I wait till it is completely gone or should I start now? how old is too old to start in to the specialty show ring? I am new to showing as my first boy was a "pet"
